800.com is having a sale on dvds right now, including a preorder of the Simpsons First Season avail here.

there's several other titles i noticed in the $10 range, including Hackers, Air Force One, The Big Hit, Titan AE, The Patriot, Suicide Kings, The Blair Witch Project, and for the audiophiles they have Video Essentials for $25. also on preorder for 8/28/01 is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. i think we all remember that one

not the best titles i imagine, but i thought some people may be interested in this

I agree that the first season is not as clever as season 3 and 4 where the writing really got creative. None the less, this is definitely entering my DVD collection.

The first season of the Simpsons only had 13 episodes because they started in January of 1990 after the Christmas special. Anybody have an idea to how much season 2 will be with 20+ episodes?

the show definitely got a lot better when they started doing parodies, references, and got much racier in their later seasons. i actually don't like many of the previous eps of the simpsons, but regardless this is definitely going into my collection, as i would assume many diehard simpsons fans out there would agree.

the commentary alone has to be worth a significant amount for the dvd anyway. now if only they had a Family Guy DVD collection...

They are planning on releaseing 2 seasons per year which means I am going to be an old man before I have the full collection. Season 2 is scheduled to be released just before Christmas.

There's a few really good episodes in series one, my favorite is Call of the Simpsons (7G09), when the Simpsons go camping. The sound of that rabbit hitting the ground in the distance after Bart and Homer tried to catch it the rope and bent over tree is a classic!

I actually have an actual animation cel of Homer from that episode.

Not to thread crap, but check out deepdiscountdvd, seen elsewhere on this board. Some items (most notably The Godfather preorder) are actually cheaper there.

i agree with whopper bopper: most of the titles mentioned in this thread are cheaper or about the same price at deepdiscountdvd.com, and they give you free shipping as well. However, if you are buying multiple titles, you might be able to save a very small amount going through 800.com. One exception is Titan AE, which seems to be cheapest at 800.com, even if purchased alone. I recommend checking out dvdpricesearch before making any dvd purchase, as they have most every retailer listed, and they will calculate shipping and tax for your zip code, and give you the best total price for a single dvd, or for purchasing multiple dvds simultaneously.

edit: also, the simpsons dvd can be preordered from direct video for $25.39 shipped.

$30 for the simpsons worst season ever (yay!). heheh not a thread crap, i am a hardcore simpsons fan and that was easily their worst season (not worth $30 in my mind). It's still awesome that they are releasing the series on DVD though.

does it matter where i found it? they usually have the best prices on dvds, free shipping, and their customer service has been excellent to me so far. Yesterday, I purchased a dvd from them and later decided I didn't want it, so I called to cancel my order. They said no problem. I guess the cancellation didn't go through in time, because this morning I received an email saying it had already shipped. I called to ask them what I should do, and they said that since the dvd was only $7, it wouldn't be worth it for them to have me return it. So they are going to credit my visa card, and I get to keep the dvd. Every other order I have placed with them has gone through without a hitch. fyi, i originally found out about the site from dvdpricesearch.com

ollie: i agree, but i think the dvd will be worth the $25 simply for all the special features. I am especially looking forward to seeing those short skits from the tracey ullman show again, it has been so long.
