The sad thing is that this shows how easy it would be for some terrorist group to bring a major city to a near stand still.
You don?t even need working explosives, just something that looks like explosives and plant them in a few important places and wait for all hell to break lose.
Plus such a scare would be a great way for them to gauge how police react to such an emergency if they were planning to do the real thing.

And Bush has done a great job of SCARING EVERYONE HALF TO DEATH with terror alerts and promises that the evil doers will hunt us down on our shores:roll:
Just curious, were you one of the people complaining that Bush did not shut down the whole air travel system because a few vague threats about terrorists wanting to hijack planes prior to 9-11?

What?s that old quote about errors in timing being made double?
First in acting with too much haste
And second in acting with too much caution.

Perhaps they acted with to much haste this time, but let us hope that if and when the real thing happens they don?t act with to much caution.

Thank goodness we're fighting them over there rather than over here!

Them? That's hogwash. We are fighting Iraqi's over there, not the folks who plan attacks inside the US.
No kidding.

So they were in place in Boston for "two to three weeks".

Suddenly someone decides today that they might be bombs?

OMFG call the Maroons!

if you have poof of this please pass it along to us and all the major networks.

Read the story.

"Turner Broadcasting said the devices had been in place for two to three weeks in Boston; New York; Los Angeles, California; Chicago, Illinois; Atlanta, Georgia; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Austin, Texas; San Francisco, California; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."

:disgust:

People will either be scared or they won't. Whether or not they are scared has nothing to do with the government and everything to do with whether they are stupid enough to think the government could possibly protect them.

That's farkin hilarious. Look at all the little ninnies running around like chickens with their heads cut off. And might I point out that Boston is about Democrat as it gets. Now tell me again which party is able to deal with emergencies calmly and rationally?

Hey, they probably will, but Bush has got Americans and the media so riled up that anything that looks suspicious is a possible "terrorist device."

Paper bag sitting in the middle of a subway walkway: BOMB!!!
Box of tools left sitting out on the side of the road: BOMB!!! TERROR!!!
Only if you're an idiot and believe everything you see on TV.

what dim witted moron thought that would be a good avertising ploy.
I would expect to see some fines and or jail time out of this. Its like yelling fire in a theater as an advertising ploy to sell Redhots.:frown:

Except I don't think they did anything illegal. The only damage came from the gross overreaction. Still, I bet some heads will roll to make it look like the 'authorities' have everything under control and, more importantly, help ignorant people sleep better at night thinking that they are somehow safe because of the actions of our government.

That describes the majority of Americans, apparently. 😛

In this case, just those in charge in Boston.

report I heard on the radio on way home from work said it was against the law....?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249241,00.html

I suppose that it's vandalism and littering. Years ago it would have just been regarded as harmless fun and the Mayor and police would have chuckled after explaining to the media that some idiot mistook a lighted sign for a bomb. Fox News also has a video the guys made of their posting the signs up around the city. It's an artsy piece and worth watching.

Idiot officials

"They arrested two men who put up the electronic promotions and vowed to hold Turner accountable for what Mayor Thomas Menino said was "corporate greed," that led to at least $500,000 in police costs."

Corporate Greed??? WTF!

If I had seen those signs I probably would have taken them ( could always use a few more ultrabright LEDs ). What kind of idiot bomber places flashing lights on their bombs?

What's really sad is that the city and its district attorney will probably try to prosecute these guys to the end of the Earth when they really aren't criminals nor a danger to anyone. Heck, those signs didn't look like bombs! They looked like lighted signs. I wonder how the prosecutor is going to convince a (hopefully level-headed) jury that they intended to cause a terror scare by planting devices that looked like bombs around the city when they didn't look like bombs at all.

At most perhaps they should have to pay some fines for vandalism or littering or defacing private and public property, but nothing beyond that. I don't think they should even get prosecuted. It's not their fault that some moron mistook what everyone else would recognize as a lighted sign for a bomb and that the city then overreacted.

They are criminals, and they are a danger. They wasted a lot of time and money and incited a wave of hysteria in a major city. Think what you want, it's wrong.

Other cities like handled the marketing materials just fine. I think they were planted in LA and SF too.

I think the city and police managers in Boston are acting kind of foolish and now they dont know how to back out of it.

dorks.

Nope. Hence the criminal charges. Good thing you don't write the laws. In your alternate reality, people would be allowed to do whatever they wanted, as long as they didn't think they would cause harm... or at least as long as they acted in service of your favorite TV show.

disorderly conduct is a stretch at best. These materials were up in 10 different cities. Phily had recovered 56 if these signs. Most folks dealt with this marketing scheme rationally.

reality is, everyone in Boston overreacted, and now they dont know how to back out of it.

edit: and I have no idea what show this is. But now Im curious 😛
