Huckabee's out. Could Romney/Huckabee be a viable GOP ticket?

I went to find some data on who would do the best against Obama, surprisingly to me, CNN shows that Paul stands the best chance against Obama as of recently.

"Who does best against Obama? Paul. The congressman from Texas, who also ran as a libertarian candidate for president in 1988 and who is well liked by many in the tea party movement, trails the president by only seven points (52 to 45 percent) in a hypothetical general election showdown. Huckabee trails by eight points, with Romney down 11 points to Obama.

The poll indicates the president leading Gingrich by 17 points, Palin by 19, and Trump by 22 points."

He still has to win the primaries and what are his chances of that? Last I heard he really wasn't doing that good among republicans. Even your quote has him losing by 7 points to Obama at this time.

I think a cardboard cut-out of Ronald Reagan is the GOPs best shot right now.. 22nd amendment concerns aside.

Well I responding to someone who says he wouldn't do well against Obama compared to the other candidates, this poll says otherwise.

Winning the primary is another story though.

1. I'm not surprised Huckabee decided not to run. He's doing 5 show a night for about 50 weeks a year for Fox News. I think that's likely to be tens of millions $'s. If he quit the show to run, Fox News would develop another show for his time slot and there is probably no quarantee he'd get another show. Would be risking an awful lot IMO for unlikely shot to win the presidency.

I've also heard people say that Huckabee never tried to build up a political organization in these past few years since his primary run. Makes me think he was never really serious about running, nor would have won the nomination if he tried.

2. I've read some pundits who opine that the 'Repub establishment' won't back Romney. They say look for Daniels or Pawlenty. If so, I think the repubs are unlikely to win, IMO they need a candidate with charisma and looks. I don't yet see it in those two.

^ it was pretty telling when, weeks ago, Fox News took Gingrich and Santorum off the air because of their presumptive runs, but not Palin and Huckabee.

I think right now, Republicans are in search of an anyone-but-Romney candidate who's palatable enough to everyone, even if he's not lighting fires in anyone's hearts. I'm imagining the primary race to be between Romney and Pawlenty, with Daniels choosing to wait until 2016 and Huntsman running for VP consideration (if Pawlenty wins, at least... no way a Romney/Huntsman ticket would fly, for multiple reasons)

Both guys failed in 2008.

Ron Paul is the best candidate out there. Is Sarah Palin waiting to make a late entrance or something?

The fact that Dr Paul is the GOP's most attractive candidate is quite telling...

Ron Paul is unelectable. he has a strong core of support and people who don't know his positions well like him, but if he were actually a contender and his sometimes-absurd views were getting press every single day, he'd drop like a rock.

Sarah Palin hasn't given any indication that she's planning on running. it feels like she just wants to try and play Kingmaker while drumming up some book sales and speaking fees.

8 months away from the primaries? it's not really a big deal.

Bill Clinton was polling dead last at this point in the lead-up to the 1992 Democratic Primaries.

It's funny we seem to have a thousand posts about who might run/win for every post about reforming the system to reduce the corruption and money. That's the issue.

It's because we treat politics like a spectator sport in America, where everyone picks a team and the result is no more meaningful than that. Speculating over who the GOP will run is more or less equivalent to speculating over which quarterback the 49ers will start next year.

A Mormon with a religious nutcase for a running mate? Yeah, right. I don't care what their policies would be, I don't want that combination running the country.
