Hub/ WinNT Server question

Hi everybody,

I have 3 machines that are plugged into a HUB. One of the machines is assigned my 1 static IP address, and has the 2 NICs in it, and acts as my server. I'm using WinNT Server as the OS on my server machine.

The problem is that the two other machines can see each other, but they can't see the server and vice-versa (Server can't see the other machines). I can only get out to the internet on the server machine.

Does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong, or what are some areas I should look into? If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks!

Do you have any kind of NAT program or proxy program running? Add some more details. Are all the machines all on the same subnet? What IP addresses did you assign to them?

Hi Bigshooter,

Thanks for your response. I'll add some more details.

On the server machine, 1 NIC has the assigned IP address given to me by my ISP. I gave the second NIC the IP 192.168.0.1, as well as the same subnet mask (255.255.255.0). The gateway I gave it is my main static IP given to me by my ISP.

The other machines (one of which runs winME and the other runs Win98), are set up to obtain an IP address automatically. In these machines, DNS is disabled, and DHCP is used for WINS Resolution.

All the machines are in the same workgroup.

I do not have the Server machine running any proxy program or such. I don't have any settings in place for the WINS stuff on my server machine. I'm new to networking - this might be a problem, right?

Anything else I need to divulge?

Do you have dhcp server running on your server?

On your 2 clients run winipcfg and see what ip they are using. It should start with 192.168.0.
