Hub/switchs questions

Will there be any problem if I link up a network using one 16 port 10/100 switch, one 8 port 10/100 switch & one 16 port 10base hub? I know there shouldn't be any problem but I am facing some funny problem using this configuration.

All my workstations are using 10/100 NIC. I am running peer to peer connections. I link my hub/switch using the following sequence : Internet Gateway server ---> 16 port switch ---> 8 port switch ---> 16 port hub.

Now the problem is that my 16 port & 8 port switch users can't access internet once the 16 port hub users browse the internet as well. If I disable the 8 port switch, the 16 port users will have no problem browsing. I am sure the 8 port switch is not faulty as before I linked up the hub, it was working fine. Things go wrong once I link the hub onto the network.

Is it really because hub & switch can't work together?

only thing i can this of is that there is a issue with the 16 port hub being only 10base and the others being 10/100.

Yes, I am pretty sure I got the uplinks correctly. The switches are auto MDIX on all ports & I connect the hub to the switch using the uplink port which is on port 1.

Do you need to use a cross-over cable instead of a straight through?

That shouldn't be a problem since the 8-port switch should run 10/100 on each individual port.

Are any of these switches/hubs managed?

Make sure you don't have any more than one connection between each of the switches/hubs. Unless you're running STP (spanning-tree protocol), you'll create loops in your network which could be the cause of the problem.
