Huawei's got some impressive devices (smartwatch and phablet)!

First their awesome looking watch, easily the best looking smartwatch I've seen yet (no Moto 360 flat tire!):

And then the MediaPad X2, a 7" tablet with dual sim so it can be a phone as well. The minimal bezels really make it look not much bigger than the current ~6" phones.

If that thing had front facing speakers and a stylus it'd be the PERFECT mobile device for me. Minimal bezels, symmetric on the top and bottom. Looks fantastic. Hope it works with T-Mobile...

The Huawei Watch does look good, although it has the Watch Urbane's problem: it's huge. They look alright if you're a fan of oversized men's watches, but they'll look goofy if you have thin wrists or long, tight sleeves. I'm jonesing for the day when we have smartwatches that look more like an Audemars Piguet Ultra Slim (i.e. they're barely there) and come in whatever sizes make sense.

I've always shied away from Huawei's products, just automatically considering them to be second-rate. I might need to rethink that based on recent offerings.

That middle one looks pretty close to that watch to me.

I doubt we see them shrink too much, in fact I think we'll see them grow like we've seen phone display sizes grow, they'll turn more into bracelets (still waiting for a big wrist one like Leela from Futurama).

There will probably be some minimalist ones but I think their functionality will suffer too much.

Wait, I think I see what you mean (the thickness of the main housing), and that's not going to shrink too much because they need too much battery. There's been some that have been trying to integrate the battery into the band which is interesting, and some solar cells might help (but would detract from the premium looks).

One of those...forget what they're called but they're non backlit, sorta e-ink type of displays (but there was a company that was developing a color one, I think Qualcomm bought them, Mirasol?) over a mirror surface might look really slick. So when it's off it'd just have the mirror surface, maybe could do an ultra minimalist clock or something over it.

Or maybe just turn the watch/bracelet into just a display and have your phone control it wirelessly.

I've never seen anyone in the US using a Huawei is tmobile adding them and what's the price points, don't think I've seen one in a tmobile store? Is it significantly cheaper than apple/samsung/lg/htc

The short answer: Probably not in a large capacity.

Huawei got set back pretty bad a couple years ago by politics. They are looking to expand into the US but its looking like they are going more direct to consumer than focusing on providers. That may change or it may not.

They won't be found in T-Mobile stores, you buy them unlocked from online stores like Amazon. The 16GB version of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 does work on T-Mobile. So I'm hoping the same may be true for this MediaPad X2.

That's the best looking smartwatch so far and the same for the tablet/phone.

Think I'll just stick with a branded tmobile phone with an unlocked bootloader. I tried to go cheap when I originally went from sprint to att and then tmobile. Getting unlocked phones doesn't mean they support all the bands that the carrier does. I made the mistake of buying an unlocked att, verizion phones thinking I'd have the same experience but they lacked some of the bands tmobile uses.

I very much enjoy trying different roms but I've yet to find one with wifi calling that works as well as tmobile's default wifi calling rom.

The mediapad x2 seems interesting. I almost bought the X1, but it was too outdated when I was looking. Instead I went with the Sony Z ultra. I wonder how the kirin processor is. Is it better than the Snapdragon 800. The resolution is good too at 1920 x 1200. Hopefully, it will have Tmobile LTE bands.

Did they release prices I would actually want the silver one. Looks much nicer than the moto 360.
