I'm kinda getting excited for this phone and it's new Kirin 970 SOC,

"The Kirin 970 is the first in a series of new advances that will bring powerful AI features to our devices and take them beyond the competition."

On the specs front, the Kirin 970 is powered by an 8-core CPU and 12-core GPU, produced with a new 10nm process, and features 5.5 billion transistors packed into it. Huawei claims the chip has "25 times the performance with 50 times greater efficiency" than a quad-core Cortex-A73 processor, which means faster processing and less battery usage.

Sounds pretty awesome...

first homegrown mobile processor to pack a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Think of the new apps that can be had with this.

The Mate 10 will be announced in October.

The CPU and GPU are underwhelming in the Kirin 970 for a SOC that will be competing with next iterations Exynos and Snapdragon processors.

I have been impressed with the Kirin 950 in my honor 8, though the GPU is mediocre. Will have to see how this one pans out.

My Honor 8's battery life took a nosedive with Marshmallow. But I do not think the SOC is the culprit. I do have high hopes for Kirin 970 as well. It will be interesting to see how it compares with S835 and Exynos 8895.

I'm interested in it as well. Had my opo for little over 3 years now, conclusions based on the experience with it:
-high end SoC again, really helps resisting the upgrade urge down the road
- easily rootable/unlocked bootloader, community support for ROM's
- >85% screen to body ratio
- >4000 mAh battery

Only two of the soon to launch phones that I'm aware of meet my criteria, this one and the mi mix 2.

Pretty much the same criteria as to why I've been a Huawei user the past 3 years with greater emphasis on the battery life. I had the mate 7, mate 8, and hopefully get back to the mate 10 of the specs hold up (skipped the mate 9 since it wasn't a worthy upgrade from the 8).

Like you, I'm just anxiously waiting to see if the leaked specs for the MM2 is true considering that the screen is bigger around 6.2/6.3in and the battery is beefier at 4300/4400mah. Hopefully xiaomi includes TMobile's band 12 this time around and think globally with the MM2.
