I installed my linksys compact wireless G router (WRT54GC) to my computer. I popped in the cdrom as it said on the manual and followed the step. Everytime i use the CD to change my router settings, i crash.

I was trying to set up my home network in control panel, everytime i enter it, i crash, and the blue screen says http.sys

i was using my powerpoint to do a presentation and watching a video and it crashes. http.sys also

please help
 
Start with the fact that http.sys is a kernel level driver for IIS. Disabling IIS may help. Check your service pack and hotfix level would be a start.

You need a space in there. iisreset /stop

Or you could go to start, run and type 'services.msc'. Then look for the World Wide Web Publishing service and stop it.
 
well windows says no such thing as service.msc

when i goto start-run-command
its under c:\documents & (watever here)
i typed iisreset /stop

it says this iisreset thing does not exist

im using winxp sp2

It would help if I actually typed that out right. I was trying to say that http.sys is now (I said not... ugh) part of SP2 and the .net framework. So, it may be there even if IIS is not as the systems http listener.

in my services.msc there is no world wide web publishing

so far iisreset/stop and services.msc don't work...is there any other way?

btw my comp will crash after i turn on azureus...

What network card do you have? Do you have the latest drivers installed?
 
i use ASUS A8N-E
and i installed the nFORCE chipset driver, which also includes the network driver...theres no driver update on asus's website...but on nvidia.com, i downloaded the forceware ver 6.9 something. i installed it, my whole system died. i had to reformat it and finished just now haha

I have an Asus K8N. Our boards are almost exactley the same, except I think yours has a different AC '97 codec on it. Anyways, there is something seriously screwed up with the nVidia network drivers and the way Asus implements the nForce networking on their boards. I was getting blue screens, frequent disconnects from the internet, weird errors, and the sucker wouldn't disable itself without BSOD'ing.

So I scrounged up a NIC from another machine I have and put it in, then disabled the nForce networking in the BIOS on the K8N. Problem solved. If you have an extra NIC laying around, try putting it in the machine and see if you get the error.
