Actually .tv was already there from the begining ... it represents the country of Tuvalu. Some greedy company bought the rights from the Tuvalunian (or whatever ...) to sell domains for TV stations.

Tuvalu didn't have to sell the extension, plus I am sure they can still use it and I bet they amount they &quot;sold&quot; it for is probably more than their friggin' GNP... it's Tuvalu, for cryin' out loud! :p

I said greedy company because it sells the domain for thousand of dollars, if I'm not mistaken (great, now I'm confused ... :eek::eek:)

OTOH, I think that the number of computers in Tuvalu can be counted by finger ...

GTaudiophile, that is the thing, ICANN hasn't released them. New.net is a IdealLab! backed company, who decided to take the matter into their own hands since ICANN is so crappy. Either your ISP needs to configure their serice to allow access to these new domains, or you can download a patch on your own computer. I think a statistic was that abou 15% of internet users currently have access to these new domains.
