I think I'll move forward with the HTPC anyway because I can use it for media storage for the entire household. Any recommendations on Motherboard?

Depending on if you game or not, I would actually recommend 780G or 790GX chipset with a low power AMD CPU 5050e or such, to keep it low powered.
As for storage, either 1TB Spinpoint F1 or WD Green 1TB, the key of these components is to have it low powered, so you don't need to have a loud fan keeping the components cool.

Even if you do game on HTPC, you can just add in a drop-in Graphics card, if you don't the IGP does blu-ray decoding fairly well.
