ill be getting a new mobo and cpu sometime soon and i was thinking about using my old stuff to build an HTPC
my "old stuff" is the mobo and cpu listed in my sig
-would 256MB be enough for an HTPC?
-would my temporary card that im using now (geforce 6200TC) be enough?
-whats a good case that doesnt cost too much?
-im considering a seagate 80GB drive, i didnt see the need for alot of storage since for me, it will primarily be music
-what kind of remote would i need?
-does windows MCE require a keyboard and mouse after the installation?

Hiya,

- Just get a gig. RAM is dirt-cheap these days, might as well. Besides, MCE2005 works best at 512MB and up.

- That 6200TC should be enough for SDTV and DVD playback at 480p. I'm not sure if it can drive HDTVs though, but it sounds like you don't need to.

- Good-value HTPC cases-- Check Silverstone's line at PC Alchemy. Remember to buy a Seasonic PSU to go with the case for optimum quietness and venting.

- Yes, 80GB should be plenty for music. But if you are going to buy a new HD, might as well go for a 200GB-250GB drive, because they currently offer the best bang-for-the-buck value.

- You can get remote bundles with MCE2005 at PC Alchemy. You might want to check out the forums at HTPC News for technical details.
