So I finally got everything to do this. I've got DVI from my PC to HDMI on my TV. I have a 720p set so I figure setting my PC's resolution to 1280x720 should be just right.... well almost. I'm losing a tiny bit of image on all sides, like the TV is just a bit too small. The bottom half of the taskbar is cut off for example.

So what's the deal? How can I fix this?

What video card do you have? Back when I had a 6800GT I connected it via DVI to a 720p HDTV a few times (at LAN parties) and the Nvidia drivers had options to easily compensate for overscan (which would slightly lower the usable output resolution, but you'd be able to see everything). I assume ATI is the same but I haven't hooked up my X1900XT to an HDTV yet so I don't know for sure...

9600 Pro.. I'm playing with powerstrip now but too tired to think :p Those nvidia drivers sounds nice...

Oh wow... I found a simiar thing in Catalyst. woot!

Edit 2: That's fixed... but WoW is still overscanned. How can I get it to follow the desktop?

Could you tell me where to change that in the Catalyst drivers just for my future reference? :p

From what I remember from the Nvidia drivers, a new resolution appeared in the resolution list corresponding to the "underscanned" resolution (something like 1164x662 or whatever), and you had to choose that in the game...

You can use Powerstrip to force ANY resolution to fix underscan, and it will fix in-game resolutions, too. Personally, I don't fiddle with it; my HTPC is strictly for video. Although, big-screen Doom3 and HW2 were fun for a couple days, I'd rather play them on a desk ;)
