HTPC or Storage Center or Both in one

Hello there.

I'm thinking of making a Storage Center or HTPC, or even better to have both in one, I have already some ideas for the storage center (for real this is more like a downloader/uploadoer machine) but I have some stuff on my mind about some hardware power consumption that I couldn't find on the web.

Well, for the motherboard I'm thinking on Asus M3A78-EM, it looks like a good option for a HTPC, but what I couldn't find is about power consumption, anyone have any idea of what is the idle consumption for this board? I heard a lot about the combination 780G/SB700 and that they consume very little power on idle, but can someone confirm this? Any numbers?

Well, having a good idea of a motherboard, here come the real deal, the processor, I was looking around, and for a HTPC + Storage Center with the addition of the idea of low power consumption (24/7 on) I couldn't really think in one processor for this solution.

Just for start wondering, if I go with a Sempron LE 1150 for example, the TDP is said to be 45W, but this is at full load right?

This processor with the board mentioned, I really doubt that they will have any problem playing a 1080p in whatever codec on a 1080p television using the HDMI port, is this line of thinking right?

Any advices will be very appreciated.

Thanks!

The motherboard is the least of your worries as far as power consuption is concerned. Its the CPU and video card consumption thats the problem. If your stickling with the onboard video and that sempron then you don't need more then a 350W PSU. So just get a good quality 400W PSU and your good to go. Just keep in mind that as you add more HDDs the power needs go up. Each HDD pulls about 24W to 30W max. Noe of this is really a big power puller. So its nothing to worry about. Just get a good quality PSU with good efficiency you will be fine.

I was not really worried about the psu, but my power bill, that why I mentioned the problems of finding info on the web.
I have a Core 2 Duo 6750 @ 3600 (450 * 8), GeForce 9800 GTX, 4 Gb dominator ram, 4 HD's sata, audigy 2 planitium, and a lot of fans (I have a CM 690 as well) and it is killing my pocket hehe, and the upload can't stop =P, and I always wanted to have a HTPC.

Thanks!

HTPC's should sleep when you're not using it. A storage/fileserver should be always-on. I tried it for a while till I realized how frustrating it was to always have to power on my HTPC to get at files.

Raduque,

The idea is to unite both in one master piece ^^.

IlllI.

Thanks, I will look there for sure.

Hey, accidentally googling about the power consumption I went to a forum, in the forum was a link to this review http://www.silentpcreview.com/article807-page1.html , just amazing, what i wanted to know about the chipset, now the question remaining is about the processor.
Maybe a sempron LE is to "low", was thinking of a Athlon LE, because around here is kind hard to find the x2 energy efficient.
