HTPC/HDMI trouble

Frequently when waking from sleep, my PC will lose audio, giving me an error that it's detected a DVI to HDMI adapter.

It's attached to a lower end Yamaha receiver, which is in turn attached to a Visio lcd. The issue will always happen if I wake the PC before the TV, but will sometimes still happen if I wake the TV first.

A restart always makes everything work, but is there a setting or something I could use to keep it more stable?

Are you using onboard or dedicated card? what make model? what OS? please provide more info...

I did have this issue with my PC, it was dedicated GForce 8400 card connected to a LCD TV directly, it never gave any error though. I could not find any solution. The issue went away after I upgraded the card and reinstalled OS, not sure which one did the trick...

As Desi said, you should list your pertinent components, most importantly, your video adapter (e.g. Intel HD2500, AMD 6770, etc.).

I had this same issue with my AMD 7750 card feeding my Onkyo AVR. It was all dependent on the version of CCC I was running, 12.6 and 13.6 (haven't ried anything newer) working fine, but all others causing the same issue you describe above. AMD has some apparent EDID issues with some combinations of hardware. It doesn't happen to everyone, though.

I'd hoped this was common enough a problem that there'd be a "click here, dumb ass" sort of simple answer.

I also wasn't sure which tree to be barking up - the PC or the receiver/TV, so skipped most of the details. Based on this thread, seems like the problem's between the PC and receiver?

PC: Dedicated Radeon 6800 series (thats all it says in CCC and I'm derping on the exact model number) 1GB, Windows 7-64, Catalyst driver v 13.1
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V367

What else is pertinent? I'm still hoping for a software solution.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but older Catalyst versions are archived somewhere on the intertoobs. Like I said, I had similar issues using various versions of CCC, with 13.6 being one that eliminated the problem for me. Wiki "EDID" to read up, but long story short, some combinations of HDMI connected devices don't play nice with each other. AMD's HDMI driver didn't like my combination and shut down the audio stream if my receiver turned off then back on (computer never sleeps or hibernates), requiring a restart of the computer to reset EDID. It's a quick experiment to get 13.6 and install.

I'll give different drivers a try.

Just switch input on tv and then switch back

Already tried this - also already tried switching the receiver input away and back, no luck.
