Not sure if this is the best forum - i know a lot of you guys are HTPC'ers
I want to test my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box's firewire (IEEE 1394) ports and if is no-5C enabled to see if I can get a digital feed into my HTPC.
I'm using my iMac running windows - it's a Core 2 Duo running at 2.0 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM as a test for this - then if it works I'll go all out with a QuadCore processor setup
I also have a copy of SageTV that my friend gave me that he isnt using - it's the most up to date version.
What exactly do I need to do to test:
1. If the firewire works? (I get the ding ding when I plug it into windows - good sign??) the software I have is passport on the system
2. If no-5C is enabled?
3. Can I get some channels without a problem and (likely premium) not get others - or is it an all or nothing thing?
4. Should I do all this thru SageTV?
Thanks,
Don
