HTPC Creamy Goodness in a SFF case

Can you say directed airflow for full height video cards in SFF/desktop case with a very nice finish. A 350W power supply from one of the best companies out there? How about two 120MM fans turning lazily? Room for 2 5" drives outisde and 2 3.5 drives inside?

They have a bunch of "b" stock right now. $47, the shipping unfortunately is $12. Get em while they last. I did.

Here's the link.

I have one. I really like it; the case really does quiet things down.

Shipping at just under $20 now at least using the link above. About 1.5x that for 2 cases.

I'm in the market for an htpc case but have been more interested in the Ultra Micro Fly style. However if anyone here can post some positive experience with this I may bite.

I've got one but I've been having mobo problems and haven't moved my entire system from my old case to the new (this case) yet. I like the build quality though. I wish it had more HD mounts. 4 would be good. My reason for purchasing it is to make a quiet HTPC and I think it will work out well. The clearance is pretty decent for CPU heatsinks but some of the larger ones won't fit. I like the style too but the front 5.25" openings pop out so if you want everything to match you have to hunt down/paint a silver DVD drive. Not that big a deal. I'd buy it again. In fact, I'd consider buying two more if shipping really was $12 for one for some home dev servers.

I am using it for main computer and am unhappy with it. HOWEVER, for a HTPC, to which I am going to transition the case, it's perfect. The PSU is very quiet, and the airflow is very good. I have one of the large Zalman heatsinks, and it fits just fine (the older one -- not the newer one with heatpipes). Two hard drives is limiting, but I typically only keep 2 at maximum so that's not a problem for me.

The big problem, and it's for every HTPC, is how to have a decent video card without too much noise. I have an ATI X800 Pro, and the fan just put it over the top for noise. I need some horsepower for games so I'm looking to get a different case for my main system and swap my Shuttle SFF (Athlon XP) for this one. I don't see the silver color as a problem because black drives look just fine in it.

I'm having a hard time coming up with a decent vid card (using ATI 9550 with heatsink only) since the passively cooled ones knock out at least one PCI slot -- at least the latest ones that I've seen. I think I only have two PCI plus a 1xPCI-E so that's a problem if I want to put a tuner plus a decent soundcard. Still researching. 🙂

For ~$60 shipped, it's a very good deal though.

I don't think HTPC is quite ready for prime time, but its coming fast. The next generation maybe by spring we should start seeing more targeted hardware, cool and quiet, but still enough to handle all the video chores.

For now I say forget the quiet, just hide the PC, and use something powerful enough to let you play all the games you like on the big tv.

How about , thanks for the info, this is a great deal.

Guess what, next time I find something nice, I am not gonna share it. I am taking my toys and going back home.

Thanks for posting it, but if you stay around you will know that its a warm deal, maybe good if you are looking for something specifically close to this and need to buy right now.

The "creamy goodness" combined with not including the shipping, kind of took the temperature down, but welcome to Hot Deals, and it isn't like you jumped into the fire like some have.

yea use something like a p180, quiet is what matters in htpc, not size with compromises everywhere else.

Do they make an HTPC case with enough room for 5 HDD's? I know, I know - this is why I haven't gotten one yet. It would HAVE TO have room for at least 4. The case I currently use for my "HTPC" is a tower and I have room for 8 HDD's inside natively, and could add more if I wanted to in the open 5 1/2 inch bays

If you don't already, you should try MythTV and have a dedicated backend in the basement or somewhere out of the way. I should do that too but... I'd rather have one system for lower power usage. I would do it with a Via EPIA system for a backend if they had some for a decent price (say $150 or less) with at least 3 PCI slots.

This is a good deal, not a great one, but stop being so thin skinned. Someone asked about the case, and some people gave opinions. If I didn't already own the case, I'd probably buy one of these, but I can't see the wisdom in buying two.

I need to get a P180 already.

what is going on in this thread? I have the nsk2400 sitting next to me right now, and it is nice, but hardly "SFF". It is literally the size of my onkyo receiver.
the minuet 300 is more SFF.
Antec has had B stock for a long time now, but it is generally ignored because $20 shipping sux.

The Silverstone LCM16 can hold 4 drives and an optical. I had one built with a Tiger K8W, 2x Opteron 850's, 4 GB of RAM and 2x200 GB SATA drives. I had to use a short form factor SATA DVD RW (Plextor) to fit in the case with my X800XL. It was really, really fast. I had no need for it, so have started dismantling it.

Check silverstonetek.com for more options or pcalchemy for an even more diverse selection.

Good luck,
EH
