Can you use a remote, such as the ones at the 'egg, for most day to day tasks in MCE 2005 without having to use a wireless keyboard?

Yes, I use a remote 99+% of the time for MCE2005. It outputs to my tv and is running 24/7. I have a wireless keyboard with a pointing device built in but I barely have the need to touch it aside from running updates and pulling a file off the web.

try the firefly remote

I had an ATI Remote Wonder, which was pretty good (the omnidirectional feature was great, my old WinDVD remote had to be pointed right at the receiver). I ended up putting the ati remote on my fiancee's box and I'm going to upgrade to the firefly with my next system upgrade.
