Thinking about getting an ATX form factor home theatre style box for X-mas.
Would love to use it to play old school games like Cstrike-Source, etc. I have so many spare parts laying around, best candidate would be a socket 939 athlon XP 3500
Could maybe talk my wife into getting my main rig updated too and put the socket AM2 Athlon X2 5000 in the HTPC.
Anyway, ram, power source, etc., all that is no problem. Basically I could easily get by with just a box. And if I need a few diff parts to ensure it is "quiet" and "cool", then I'll make it happen. Bottom line is, the parts are not the problem. The problem is my intended use.
Question about actual use.
If I purchase a blu-ray reading optical drive (like a Lite-On for example) that contains software to read Blu-Ray discs...would the following be true?
I have a HDMI capable outputting video card, windows XP professional (32bit), 1080p capable LCD TV, Blurary reading optical disc player w/ required software......
big question here is ....... Would this be feasible? Am I missing something? I'm basically treating my big ol' LCD TV as a giant PC monitor and thats about it I guess.
Is there a way to better integrate my HTPC into my setup of Cable (actually a ATT UVERSE setup), music, etc. to make it a more seameless experience rather then just.
"Hey, want to watch a blu-ray movie? "Boots up PC and loads up windows, opens up window with mouse and plays movie and then hits maximize window button"
I'm not a newb at PC building, but I am a complete and utter newb in the world of integrated home theatres (think like how Xbox / PS3 meld into your home theatre )
Am I thinking of sometihng so far flung into the future that it cannot exist?
