ok my first issue is that when you put links in your sig, it greatly reduces the length your sig can be, because it counts the html as the number of characters, not the text that people see. i'm sure something could be done about this, could it not?

the second issue is sigs with lots of lines. i just saw a sig with something like 14 lines, i think this is pretty obnoxious, perhaps a limit of 7 or so could be put on? i dont mind long sigs (in fact i'd like to have more than 255 characters), but, when a sig fills up a significant part of the browser window, that seems to be over doing it.

just some thoughts :)

I agree. People please don't put system specs in you signature. Instead setup your My AnandTech page and post a link in your signature.

the 255 character limit will not be changing any time soon. I feel it is more than enough for a sig. As for the lines, yes. that is annoying as hell. there should be some kind of limit.

Yea, I wish they could make it like a 300 character limit but no more than 5 "\n"'s. Oh well, the 255 is probably a hard limit due to the way the database is set up, and changing it might require moving to a different data type for that particular column, thus slowing down the servers too much. Oh well, forget I said anything. :)

So, It won't be changing because you feel that it is more than enough for a sig?

Notice the period. It is not a comma ;)
