Boom. There goes 600 bucks for an unlocked HTC One.

Question is, how are your experiences with screen protector on the HTC One. Does it degrade the display, the tactile feeling or put simply the overall experience with the phone ?

Now that I've learned that screen protector could even help with resisting crack, I almost feel obligated to buy one.

I use aluminium foil, so it matches the case.

J/K....I think any screen cover will add degradation to some degree. I would really research this.

screen protector probably won't do much to resist cracks, but it will help with scratches. all screen protectors will degrade your screen to an extent (good ones will wash out the colors slightly, bad ones will give nasty rainbow effects on white backgrounds). as far as tactile feel goes, it's the difference between touching plastic and glass.

I have a Martin Fields protector on my N4 and I think it actually improves the display by reducing finger prints while still feeling glass-like. The cheaper one on my Nexus 7, not so much.

Yup, but it protects it.

My trick is to use a screen protector for the whole first year. Then after that I take it off.

That way the first year I have a device (and its still considered modern) I don't have a tragic scratch that would upset me. Then when I take the screen protector off its like I get a brand new, better device that I don't feel bad scratching.

These are the kinds of cheap thrills you look for when you don't phone swap every six months lol.

You'll want a TPU case though if you're really concerned about cracking glass. It's the only thing that might save your phone if you drop it on its corner.

I've used lots and lots of screen protectors on lots and lots of devices.

They vary from ok to horrible. Even the ok ones feel much worse than no screen protector (unless you're using a resistive screen, which is fairly unlikely nowadays). Some of the decent screen protectors look not to bad though (still not as good as naked though).

It's a bit like sex I suppose. It feels better with no protection but it's up to you if it's worth the risk.

If using my phone without protection meant spawning more phones... that would be awesome. ;)

Xtremeguard makes a decent protector for a low price (on sale they are like $1 shipped). They are wet apply so don't make the mistake of dry installing it. If you install it right it is definitely a good cover

i got a zagg since it's all I could find on day one. I've used spigens before too, they're nice. xo skins is good too

seems like spigen stopped selling the htc one glass protector since it interfered too much with the capacitive buttons

I'd definitely go with something like the Fosmon ones. Don't get a matte/mirror finish unless you want to destroy screen quality.

Guess I'll try the fosmon.
Thanks for all the advice.

Me a sad panda now. Its Saturday and htc's shop still showing "Out of Stock - Next Shipment Available to ship: 05/23/2013".
Guess I'll go for the developer edition instead.

Edit:
Bleh. These unlocked phones have incompatibility problem with T-mo's network

You will have to get T-Mobile's version. Fosmon's screen protectors are your standard dry application ones, so you will probably want to try the hinge method to apply them for perfect fit.

The glossy one I have is great right now, it's basically invisible unless you carefully examine the screen edges.
