HTC One 2014 (M8)

? The HTC One's camera was plenty fast, no shutter lag to speak of.

It just couldn't take a clear picture to save its live. 😛

Forget HTC One+. Look for M8 to be called The All New One, in gray, silver, and gold.

Uh, if 'The All New One' is the official name for the m8, I will nominate it for the worst product name in smartphone history.

Most of the time, even Samsung Galaxy phones are referred to as "Samsungs" where I am. I don't even remember the last time someone referred to a phone as a "Galaxy".

If only I could trust HTC to keep this phone updated with the latest version of Android for more than 12 months.

So are they scrapping the 'UltraPixel' thing then?

It matters to a lot of people because having a black bar with nothing by an HTC logo on it is not only ugly, its a complete waste of space. Look at several of the Verizon Motorola Droid models, with the chin, Verizon logo, and on screen buttons, the bottom of the phone has a good inch of bezel.

Moving the power button to the proper place on the side above the volume rockers would resolve that. 😛

No word on Ultra. 13 MP camera is a good step forward. Bezel really doesn't bother me that much. Power button on top is nonsense.

Check out the Desire 8. Coming to America. 5.5" HTC device with on-screen buttons. Looks awesome.

htc one digitizer. note how the digitizer hardware extends below the screen. you wouldn't be able to put a front facing speaker there.

I think this is my next phone. I was really down on the HTC One last year but the improvements coming change everything. (Centered home button, wake button on the top right instead of left, SD card slot.) I'm also someone who uses the speaker on my phone a great deal. Plus I'm really warming up to the idea of BlinkFeed. I check Instagram and Twitter throughout the day so it would be ideal to have both feeds in one place.

If the power button is going on top they better incorporate a knock on function (double tap screen to turn on and off). It's the single most used and useful feature on my G2, I honestly don't know why it's not in every phone already.

I don't know why I'd want to use it, I kind of found it pointless. But again, opinions.

The one thing every phone user does is turn it on and off, many times a day. Knock on makes that task easier, no reaching for buttons, no having to use your hand to hold the phone steady while you press power. With knock on, your finger goes to the screen, which is where you want it to be after turning it on. When you're done, your finger can turn the phone off from the same place. It's easier and more efficient. If you haven't tried it then you don't understand the convenience. There's no reason why every phone shouldn't have it.

Nokia Lumia 520, a $60 Windows phone has "knock on". Picked one up for the kids to try out and it actually is very nice for the price. Beats an old QWERTY dumbphone, but alas can't steer them away from an iPhone, yet. Anyone looking for a cheap smartphone, I doubt you will find anything better at the price point.

the space beneath the htc logo is probably required internally for components. don't forget there are rather large speakers taking up space top and bottom

looks really nice to me. I have missed my htc one despite the nexus 5's advantages in some areas.

Logic

Just like people who keep saying Z2 is too big, when area is needed for waterproofing and the dual front speakers. 😛

I don't know if I'm a minority. But the M8 will not sway me from leaving my M7. Looks like I'll have to continue waiting for an upgrade.

It's absolutely real. Here's another link if the YouTube link gets pulled. Kid made a huge mistake. Phone looks awesome IMO.

So I don't have to watch it, mind summarizing what's new/great about it? At first glance it seems like a phone that you'll like if you liked the original One (aluminum body, front speakers). If you didn't really care about those, then it wasn't that interesting (big body for the screen, big bezels). Does it actually change the balance gen to gen?

i'm not very familiar with the exact specs of the last One and this One but from what I can tell based on a few articles
4.7 to 5" screen - same overall size?
hardware buttons vs On Screen Buttons
no SD vs SD Card -
bump to Camera pixels and dual camera
hardware bump
android and sense bump
