There must be an app that is running in the background. I bet it's a Google service that is running. There was a bug in hangouts where it drained the cpu only allowing one core to run. But I think that was fixed.

pretty random, went to a happy hour for my agency's RE agents provided by an RE attorney group. ended up talking for a couple hours with 3 cool agents from different offices. of the 4 of us, 3 of us had the HTC one m8. i hope it's selling well. we need HTC to continue to be a competitor in the market.

I stopped all Google Services (two automatically started again), no change. This is getting really upsetting! 8h of idle, 30% gone! F**king Google!

It may not be Google. You might want to reset your phone.

I did not install any new apps. The power drain is reported mostly by Android OS and Google Services, the other apps have meaningless %. I tried restarting the phone, didn't help. I am not resetting the phone to stock and loosing my data. Google broke it, they need to fix it!

Your account should be synced. If you reset your phone your apps should reinstall automatically (or you can manually select which ones to install). You shouldn't lose anything.

Cloud stuff 🙂

Are you in an area with bad coverage? That can drain a battery pretty fast.

I'm on WiFi only (Mobile data disabled). I'm in the same area I have been in the past 5 weeks, this only started happening recently.

Gonna check, maybe Google (drain your battery!) Now is on again after an update.

EDIT: Nope, it's off.

are you rooted? if so there is an app called disable services that can disable individual services of google and google play for example.

if you are rooted let me know if you install that app, i'll dig up the thread on xda where a guy gave 6 services to disable and that solved a lot of battery drain.

What I don't understand is I have this exact some phone and it's pretty much stock, but I'm not having the issue at all. Not sure what's different on his.

It's not rooted. It's running stock HTC Sense, latest version. The phone's been golden since I got it, more than awesome. And now for a week or so, the battery is god awful. I did not install any new apps, just whatever is there was updating itself...

that happened to me on my nexus. the battery life wasn't stellar but it was good. i also didn't install any new apps and all of a sudden google play services just started sucking down my battery like crazy. the disable services trick worked. android is wack like that sometimes.

It's probably hangouts if you use it. Causes a wakelock. Instead of hitting home to leave the Google apps, press back all the way out.

So some Google services updated and now the phone is loosing 2% every hour idle on WiFi only :/ And I can't use any battery stats to see what is draining it (thanks Google!). The default viewer (Settings -> Power) shows Android OS and Google Services as the biggest drainers (Android OS for over 4 hours keep awake in the last 8 hours!).

I tried rebooting the phone, but that didn't help... any idea what can be draining it? The phone is not doing anything, just sitting on the table most of the day 🙁

If you have an sd card, pull it and see if the behavior changes. Just dealt with an M8 that was freaking out because of a bad sd card, not identical behavior but similar.

that's the right number. i thought 8mp on the N5 was perfect.double the res of 4mp, still low enough to use larger pixels for better low light performance than the rather unnecessary double digit megapixels samsung does.
This. Exactly. This is a good camera for being 4 MP but I've so far seen such mixed results with it from folks I'm having trouble thinking this is the next phone for me.

My battery problems were because of the location setting. It was set to high accuracy and this is draining the battery like crazy even if you're not actively using maps ... I set it to high accuracy cause I was using navigation on a trip. I didn't set it back to battery saver mode...

Sucks that this setting drains battery like crazy even in idle. Can't use turn by turn navigation without it so I have to change the setting every time I have to use navigation D:

There's something not right there. I have mine set to high accuracy and it lasts 1-2 days on a charge.

does anyone here also have a Oneplus one?
I am debating between the two and the oneplus seems to have a bigger battery and 1 GB more ram... was wondering if anyone have IRL experiences between the two....

Thought you had a one plus. Build quality is definitely not the same. One plus will not feel anything like the m8. Other than the yellow band on the one plus, the specs on OP are great but it can be pretty buggy with touch issues, ghost touches, etc. Although most of that should be fixed with updates by now.

I had one for a little over a month and went back to my m7.

yeah i am a bit weary of using OPO again after the terrible time i had with the OPO i just warrantied...

has anyone run cyanogenmod on the M8? do you lose all the cool Sense features?

They have stock rooted roms available that let you mod, give you Hotspot capabilities, and keep Sense. The Sense camera makes it all worth it alone 🙂
