do those prices require a wireless data plan? also, will the HTC dream be available unlocked?

also, what about other android handsets or the possibility of loading android on existing smartphones/

With the OS being open sources, I'm sure there will be some way to unlock it even if it isn't.

There are rumors of lots of other handsets and I've seen some people install it on current phones, but nothing firm I don't think.

There are some newer pictures of the phone at engadget from a chinese site that look to be the real thing. It's not a looker, but it's not ugly either.

T-Mobile will unlock it after you have it activated on a new line after 3 months IIRC, if you're a long time customer, they'll unlock it after the remorse period expires. The downside is that T-Mobile's 3G and ATT's aren't compatable, it'll work for 2G, but then what's the point if you're going to hobble it with a 2G network.

The data plan will mirror the iPhone' $30/month.

It sure is ugly as hell, I may wait for a better looking phone, am on the fence over the looks.

i've seen the pictures. aesthetics aren't really all too important. i'm more concerned about features and having an unlocked phone. at $30 or even $20, wireless data plans are still too expensive and as long as there is wifi i'm good. i'm on at&t now w/ a 20% service discount and i'm not sure if i'd be able to easily get a comparable discount from tmobile.
