HSF's on Thunderbird vs. Barton

This might be a dumb question, but...

if a heatsink/fan says it's compatible with an AMD XP Throroughbred up to 2600 or 2800 (even 3200), will it also be compatible with an AMD XP Barton 2500? I am assuming so, but since the product descriptions don't mention the barton I want to make sure I buy the right thing.

I know in the anandtech barton review it says, "other than a larger cache (and a respectively larger die), Barton is no different from Thoroughbred." But since I don't know what the hell a "larger die" is, it doesn't help me much. ha ha. Thanks.

a larger die refers to the size of the piece of silicon that actually contains the processor,

any heatsink that is compatible with the athlon xp line should work with the barton core


The rectangle in the center of the processor is the "die"

Yes. As long as it is a socket A thunderbird.
