Hsf solution

I need a new hsf for my Athlon XP 1600+, which I plan to overclock to 1800+ and above speeds. Right now I'm running a Volcano 6Cu (the only one I could get my hands on for cheap and fast...) But now I need a better heatsink that cools faster and quieter. I heard the Alpha PAL8045 and the Thermalright SK6 were good, but I don't want those super-loud Delta fans (I don't want to drive myself nuts!!!). So I was wondering if anyone out there can suggest a solution for me. I was also wondering whether there were any Thermalright SK6 with a non-Delta fan and supporting speeds of 1800+ or above. Thanks in advance. 🙂

I have a SK6 on my XP1800+ (1.53GHz @1.67GHz) and it works like a champ. I am using the Sunon high output 60mm fan which is not loud at all.

You aren't going to get much lower than those temps without using something with a Delta screamer on it.

<< 51 C not overclocked btw on a athlon xp 1600+? Athon xps are supposed to be cooler. >>

Unless you are using a thermal probe of some sorts, your socket thermister reading could vary ~10C in some cases. The Volcano is a paperweight, and a mediocre cooler at that.

well as stated from before... you'd get more helpful help from cases and cooling forum (MikeWarrior2 😀) but...

temperatures are NOT constant between people....

how is the cooling for your case?
what motherboard are you using?
what thermal compound are you using?

I'm now considering the Alpha PAL8045 with an Orix fan or an SK6 with a Sunon fan. Btw, the Thermalright webpage says SK6 is only for up to TB 1.33.

Using enlight case with a forward fan and fan on the psu.
Motherboard is the EPOX EP-8KHA+ and the thermal paste I used was generic.
Btw, there aren't that many ppl in case and cooling forum to respond this fast.

You read it wrong. AMD: Thunderbird up to 1.33 GHz and higher

they're there... but give them time.... they have other lives 😉

ok... well my advise for that case... is to put that fan on the back as exhaust... or get another 80mm fan and use it as exhause... you need an exhaust... ( i have two of those cases.. modded though )

for overclocking the XP the Thermalright SK6 or the Alpha Pal 8045 are THE best..... the 8045 will fit your board... it doesn't fit some (mine 🙁) but as for your current cooler...... i'm not sure about it performance wise.... especially for overclocking

51C is this for Idle or Load?

sounds kinda high to me at least.... i'm sure it's fine though... i'd suggest considering a new cooler

51 C at full load. But which fan on the heatsinks? Cuz delta fan will drive me up the wall and so will the YS-Tech, but the sunon fan has lower cfm than my volcano6cu and is louder than it.

i can't really help you there.. but trust me... post that question in cases and cooling and they'll answer

EDIT: I'm a delta man myself 😛

In that case, use the SK6 and Panaflo M series or even the H series. They are quieter than the Sunon. Prsonally, I'll go with the M series. Again you need to mount an exhaust fan at the back of the case. The closer the exhaust to the CPU HSF the better off you are. Again, I recommend the 80mm Panaflo L series for all your case fan mods.

The beauty of the Alpha 8045 and Swiftec are that they are large enough that they don't use a 60 mm fan (which is the Delta screamer size) they use an 80 mm deal instead which is much quieter. The SK-6 is pretty cool as well because you should be able to mount a replacement 80 mm fan on it (offset 45 degrees) pretty easily for less noise than the Delta. That would be the direction I would go if I were you and didn't want to deal with the Delta.

That's fine.. the T-Bird runs alot hotter than the AXP.. if it can take a T-Bird 1333 or more, it can take an AXP at probably any speed.
