I've read some of the threads on custom Heatsink and Fan (HSF) combos, but didn't come away with any clear and persuasive advice.
I'm thinking of buying an OEM e6400 CPU I saw somewhere for about $160, so if I do that I'd add my own HSF. I wouldn't be overclocking in the extreme, but I would like the flexibility to get up to around 3.0Ghz, maybe a little higher. No need to push it as far as some on these boards have proven is possible, so that should mean I don't need a higher-end cooler.
Cost is a factor, as I'd like to stay in the $20-$35 range, and hopefully toward the low-to-mid side of that. Otherwise I'd probably go with a retail e4300/e6300, begin with stock-cooling and buy a custom HSF down the road when I may need/want more overclocking.
Having it be reasonably quiet is a bonus, and I'd pay a few bucks more to keep it from being too noisy.
Any recommendations for such a HSF?
