HSF Powerful Combo?

Thinking of buying this HeatSink and putting this 90mm Tornado fan on it. You guys think it will work good? I figure it will be pretty loud. I am planning on controlling the fan with my Sunbeam Rheobus like I do my other tornado.

If you think this combo sucks. Post me a link to your choice Heatsink and fan.

If you think this combo would rock then tell me so.

get this heatsink slk-900

dude, obviously you've never actually owned a tornado. for you sake, pass on the tornado.

what I would get? well, swifty is a good 40 - 50 bucks. go buy yourself a nice sk7, if money don't matter, get a slk800. I own a swifty, alpha, and 2 sk7s. the alpha and swifty are in my closet.

fan? get yourself a ystech adjustable. 48 cfm, w/ rheostat for noise control.

the combo can be bought at svc for $30 + shipping.

edit: the 900 is a kick ass hs, but you might get sick of the mounting method, I know I did. it was just too much trouble taking it on and off.

see here for some comparrisions. scroll down

Actually I have 2 tornado's... I am gonna check out the stats on you recommendations.

What are you planning on doing with your cpu that you need so much cooling 😀? If you plan on accessing your cpu often forget a bolt on hs, incredible hassle.

I smell massive overclocking here 😀 With the money you'll be spending on the hs + fan... you can buy an entry watercooling system. Better cooling and low noise.

Somehow it seems unpleasant to drop the equivalent of a dentist's drill in my ear in the name of cooling.
Get a good quality heatsink (Alpha, Swiftech, or, my fav, Thermalright) and couple it with a Panaflo L1A or a Y.S. Tech adjustable 80mm.
They will both provide god cooling, and handle moderate overclaock as well, with the YS tech gaining a bit over the Panaflo.

I have a VANTEC AeroFlow VP4-C7040 Heatsink with a p4@3ghz and my temperatures haven't moved above 38c. I haven't overclocked yet though 🙂

It seems pretty quiet to me.....

54.6DB? YOW! My whole rig is only 32Db (which four times as quiet) and I still think it's too loud.

Well I guess Tornado means in BOTH sounds and air flow...

Godmare is right on the DB ratio.
I don't understand how people can tolerate loud computers.
I'm not satisfied with my PC noise and the only way i could make it more silent is watercooling.
check out SilentPC Review for recommended heatsinks.
Of those I've setup the ax7 and slk900 and recommend them both.
ax7 on a athlon 1.4 (hot chip) with panaflol1a cpu temp 50ºC (not the greatest case airflow either)
slk900 on a 2100 tbredb (@1.85v) 92mm ZM-F2 undervolted to 5~6 volts - cpu temp 40ºC (running SOB)
Also had an alpha on the tbred with a L1a @ 44ºC
I'll take 10-15ºC over 10-15DB anyday

I have worked in datacenters all my life. 50db is nothing. We have 100's of servers. Each with at least 5 ultra 160 scsi drives in them. Noise isn't a factor to me really. Plus with the rheobuses I can turn the speeds down.
