Hey all,

I am in need for a HSF for the Athalon XP chip im gonna buy. Whats the Coolest/Quietest fan out there. might do some light OC'ing.

thanx

Light oc'ing? The stock HSF with retail packages are supposed to be quiet; that's what I'm going to use on my XP 1600+. Taisol has some cool HSFs that are rated at 32 and 38db (very quiet compared to most 4500-5000rpm fans). But if you're really going to be oc'ing, you'll have to get something noisy. Hardocp has a roundup on HSFs but they all look noisy: 50+ db.

depends on what you call quiet, personally, for a fan on an overclocked chip, i'd say 40 db is quiet. Right now i'm using the stock 60mm fan on my tai sol heat sink which is about 30 cfm and 38 db. I wouldnt say its deafening by any means, but the louder noise takes some getting used to (especially if yo're used to quiet comps made by major manufacturers). My athlon thunderbird 1.2ghz is oc'd to 1.33 (idle temp is 40 C and full load is 48 C which is pretty respectable.) ok, so my advice is to go to plycon.com, try to get the highest CFM you can with the lowest DB, and try to not go too much over 40db

(i've heard that 60 db delta fans once made a guy go litterally insane!) 😀
