Generally, a Zalman 7700AlCu or Cu would be better than that ThermalTake, both for cooling, and for silence. A XP-90 with a medium/low Panaflo would work well also.

are there any good fanless solutions?
Remember, kensai, i don't want it to take up that much space,
Should i stick with the stock? or what?
Also, on the stock, and the tt one i was looking at, do those blow air towards the cpu or away from it? My case has a side fan, and i wanted to know which way i should mount it.

Good stuff:
Zalman 7700
Thermalright XP-120, SI-120, XP-90 + fan of choice
Arctic Cooling's Scythe Ninja + fan of choice

...otherwise, you may as well stick with the stock cooling. Thermaltake does not have a single product than compete with those (assuming the SI-120 gets at least XP-90 performance) in all respects. Those with good performance are big and heavy, and/or have poor methods of mounting (the Sonic Tower is a good example of being both, but actually performing well).

ok, sounds like i'll get the scythe...see if passive cooling plus the side fan on case (90mm TT) will keep that cool, and if it fits. I got an extra 120mm TT fan i could use on that scythe if i have room.
But otherwise, you guys think i should stick with the stock?

BTW, thx for all the help.

Where can you buy a 120mm ADDA?

The only place I know of is Mouser but their prices are pretty steep.

The stock AMD cooler is pretty good actualy. At 2.53ghz 1.45v, my max load with 2 instances of prime95 is 51c.

The 3800+ doesnt come with the heatpiped cooler, though.

Mouser is the only place I know of in the US to purchase ADDA fans. They carry a few hypro bearing and BB fans. Prices are around $15 to $30. Is a little steep, but are very nice fans that ramp very well. OP, I say stick with the stock HSF. Can always upgrade later if need be.

The stock HSF works fine, but you might consider getting a custom (preferably a larger one) especially if this person is uncomfortable with opening the case up and vacuuming the dust buildup from the stock a64 cooler. I have a A64 clawhammer and my load temps are ~50c which is well within the operational range. Athlon64s are rated to work up to 70c! Please note that it probably will be a good idea to vacuum the dust off the stock HSF once per year at least. The heatsink grill plates are positioned very close to eachother, and dust can get in between them and greatly impede airflow. After running my a64 clawhammer for 1.5years (24/7 operation, and in dusty enviornments) i had so much dust inside my heatsink that i could not see the metal when looking head on. The dust was so bad that my idle temps were 60c and load temps were over 70c! The exhaust from my two casefans was HOTTER than my old antec true430, and that thing ran pretty hot! These extreme temps were causing the core to ramp its clockspeed down (or shut of temporarily, im not sure of the specifics), but it was causing noticible slowdowns in XP (system would just seem to hang for awhile) and some programs were reporting memory problems. Prime95 was failing immediately and memtest86 causes my system to shutdown!

My system was probably running under these conditions for 2-3months, i vacuumed the dust, and now its w
