Signed up.

Their security question was taken from my credit report. They *do* check credit. Citibank does this as well...I was turned down for a checking account about two years ago because I had a score in the high 500's. HSBC says my account needs further review, and that's almost definitely because of my credit score.

I'm an Americorps volunteer this year, so no chance of improving my credit any time soon...but it's been a pain, let me tell you.

it says:
"After 04/30/06, all deposits will earn the variable APY available at that time"

what do you think that will be? ...approximately?

My girlfriend is looking at the capitalone savings account- is there a reason NOT to go for them, when compared to say...emigrant? (both emigrant and capitalone have 4.25% APY)

It shouldn't be any lower than the 4.25% it was before this promotion. With The last Fed bump of 0.25% and another one most likely next time the Feds meet, I wouldn't be surprised to see HSBC at 4.5% after this promotion ends.

Okay I signed up last week and for the life of me can't figure out what my login and password are.

Does HSBC issue them via email, mail, or was it something I picked and just forgot (doubting because I'm consistent in my names and p-words)

The first username and password set is sent to you via postal mail, in two seperate mailings.

I didn't know until about a week after I signed up and received the information. A bit of a pain I suppose, but I guess you know it's pretty secure.

Has anyone else had problems getting the $25? I signed up in the middle of January, and it's been more than 45 business days. I called them up, and they want me to fax a copy of the promotion to them which I don't have. What should I do?

Go to the webpage: http://hsbcdirect.com/1/start.htm and print it out and fax it to them! It clearly states $25 bonus...

interesting... iirc, paypal accounts are also money market accounts if you opted in for interest. i'm curious on what withdrawals limit you speak of.

interesting...

When was your first deposit?

My first deposit was 1/26/2006 and got my $25 bonus on 2/22/2006.

I wouldn't have a copy of the promotion and I don't exactly remember them mentioning anything about the $25 bonus after I entered the promo code.

Just curious, which promo code did you enter if any at all?
