HSBC online saving rate 3.25%

omfg.... what a great deal. I'd give anything to get HSBC back. I banked with them for 4 years while attending school in upstate New York and wish they had branches in Chicago. I highly recommend them if you have branches in your area.

The fine print reads, "* Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is accurate as of 7/7/05. The rate may change after the account is opened. Minimum balance to obtain APY is $1.00. Fees may reduce earnings on the account."

Though it is a great rate, how much of that fine print is legalese in order to CYA, and how much of it is prophetic? They claim there are no monthly fees, but what other fees could there be that would reduce earnings?

BULL!!!!!!!! click on "View Rates" and it will be easy to see that not a single one of their savings accounts has that kind of yield. The only thing thats like that is a CD. The highest yield in a savings account, it seems, is 1%....which is what i am now making at citibank.

I am not sure where you're looking? Click on view rates link and I see the under the SAVINGS title, the online savings is on the top at 3.25%.😕

Edit:
Plus smack in the middle of the page is the link to this. 3.25%

It says 3.25% with a big * right next to it. At the bottom of the page, this..

"* Annual Percentage Yield (APY) is accurate as of 7/7/05. The rate may change after the account is opened. Minimum balance to obtain APY is $1.00. Fees may reduce earnings on the account."

Thanks for the post, but this is not for me.

Ah... That's the same with any bank. Unless you get a CD for a period of time. The bank can change the interest rate at any time. Sometimes it's up, sometimes it's down. Welcome to the free market system. My INGdirect went from about 5% down to 1% and back up to 3%.

I asked HSBC Customer Service through their online "Bank Mail" system about this over the weekend, and got the reply back today:

Thank you for your recent e-mail to HSBC's Internet Banking
unit.

The funds transfer fee does not apply to transfers made
online between your HSBC US accounts. The funds
transfer fee only applies to wire transfers completed at
a branch.

Our Customer Relationship Center is always available, 24
hours a day, 7 days a week to meet all of your banking
needs. Please e-mail us by clicking 'BankMail' in the gray
navigation bar on the left or call 1-800-975-HSBC
(1-800-975-4722), and speak with one of our professionals.

Sincerely,

Susan Cooke
Internet Banking Specialist

So it looks like if you already have an account with HSBC that you'll be transferring money to/from, then the Funds Transfer fee won't apply.
