Like the topic says.. I was eyeing the Zalman 7000, but then I read there may be MB fitting issues, etc.. Any reccomendations? I'd like semi-silent, but I realize that the quieter it is, the performance generally suffers.

My previous PC's have all had SLK-800's w/ TT fans. Just wondering what the latest fads are. :)

I was considering going W/C (again), but I'm not sure I really want to deal with the maintenance.. that's why I sold off my W/C stuff previously.

/sigh

Any help is appreciated. :)

Any of the copper Thermalright products should be great, such as the SLK900 A or U, The SLK-947-U and if it fits and you have very deep pockets, the SP97 with an 80mm fan such as the Thermaltake SmartFan II, which has a potentiometer so that you can vary the speed and noise level of the fan. That is my present favorite setup and you can run the SF2 at low to moderate levels if you aren't overclocking to the max.

I like the Zalman cuz it also supports some A64 processors. I have a Thermalright SLK947u with a Panaflo 92mm on it. Works like a charm :)

Edit: Hey, if you want a TR SLK947u on that mobo, you need to buy an additional Neo Backplate ($5) from Thermalright. link

I always suggest a look at the Thermal Integration V77L HSF - IMO, one of the best HSF designs ever. It is cheap (low as $7. each +sh), works very well in its stock setup (plenty of reviews - google for 'em), works better yet if you lap the copper core a bit, and is amenable to fan adapters due to the fin design which doesn't create anywhere near the back pressure of most. Plus it is one of the most compact XP HSFs that is suitable for the high end units. Not to mention it has one of the easiest mounting systems of all. The standard 0.4A, 70mm fan can be a bit feisty without some kind of regulator (Fan Mate, front panel control or a simple pot/rheostat).
. Low noise, cool, compact, easy and cheap - hard to beat...

I know the Zalman and Thermaltake in question are good for the mild-moderate overclock, but how's the VL77L? I'm not looking to go nuts on the O/C. I'll go check out some of those reviews.. :)

Thanks, guys. All this because my 8RDA+ (finally) took a dump. Damn near the worst MB I've ever owned.. not all too impressive O/C'er, either. I threw everything, including a H2O setup at that sucker... not worth the effort. *sigh*

Hrm, you have a water cooling system? You want air?

I guess the thing is, if you want the best go for a Thermalright with the heat pipe (SP97?) and get a really good fan (again Vantec Tornado if you dont mind noise, or a Panaflow 80 or 92mm)
