I still don't really grasp why she would even want the VP slot, much less a cabinet spot. both would be a step down from being a senator.

Aides: N.Y. senator will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race
</a>

CHICAGO - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

Yet she still won't quit 100% because she still has things she wants.

The advisers said Clinton made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.

Ding dong the wi... :music:

Just Kidding!

Seriously though... One thing that bothers me is how Hillary is shown in the pics I've seen. When I see her on TV she looks pretty good for a 61 year old woman. Then I look at the pics in that link. In one they caught her mid clap with a stupid look on her face. In the other she looks like The Joker. I mean, can they not take a 'good' pic of her?

Edit: Bad 2nd link.

it's the same thing Edwards did, there's really no difference except that suspending her campaign means she can still raise money to pay back her campaign's debts.

Clinton not prepared to admit defeat, campaign chairman says
Posted: 11:25 AM ET
WASHINGTON (CNN) ? Hillary Clinton is "absolutely" not prepared to admit Barack Obama has beaten her in the race for the Democratic nomination for president, Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe told CNN Tuesday.

The comments came minutes after the Associated Press reported Clinton is preparing to concede the delegate race Tuesday night as the five-month Democratic primary process comes to a close.

McAuliffe called that report "100 percent" incorrect.

Obama "doesn't have the numbers today, and until someone has the numbers the race goes on," he also told CNN.

As of Monday night, Obama led Clinton among the delegates who formally nominate the party's candidate, with 2,076 to 1,917. A candidate needs 2,118 delegates to clinch the nomination. There are 31 delegates at stake in Montana and South Dakota, plus nearly 200 superdelegates who have yet to declare who they support.

I have to agree with SlingXShot, we all know this is the realistic end of Clinton's chances,
but until Hillary actually concedes, I will not consider it official yet.

For that matter its been over since super Tuesday. I have waited this long, I think I can wait a day or two longer.

Hillary has run a damn fine campaign, her problem is that Obama ran a slightly better campaign.

I beg to differ... If Hillary's camp brought up the Wright issue before Super Tuesday there is no way Obama could've won a lot of those white states.

That is the ultimate kitchen sink. I heard theories of either the Clinton campaign underestimated Obama and didn't do enough research. Or did Hillary know about it and decided not to pursue it?

Reports are hitting the news outlets that Clinton is now signaling that she is open to a VP slot on an Obama ticket.

Probably what she has been positioning herself for over the past few weeks...mathematically, this contest was over long ago...the electability argument never gained traction...my guess is that Clinton stayed in this long to win a few more states representative of her constituency to bolster the joint ticket argument.

Obama will be able to claim the nomination by the end of this week...Clinton's role in his campaign is anyone's guess.

I hope he doesn't pick Clinton as his running mate...kind of throws the whole change equation out the window, and will bring into question who is truly running the White House under a presumptive Obama Presidency.

He'll have to make nice with Clinton's supporters, but I cannot see how a majority of them can rationally or reasonably shift over to McCain, or sit this election out and risk a McCain victory.

Oh come on. The people don't elect the President.

The Electorals do. They are still firmly Red.

I can't beleive that after the last 8yrs the majority of people still don't understand this!

The electoral college has been intentionally skewed to favor land area and land holders since the beginning, not population. And the vast majority of the land area in this country is rural, and as red as a fire engine.
