At one point either during the debate or an interview, Nancy Pelosi says the Republicans will vote no, but take the dough.

Well then, to be fair, every district that those Repub legislators come from who voted no (all of them) should not receive any of the funds being issued out from the relief package because those Repub controlled districts of whom their voters elected these Repubs to Congress to represent their interests don't want those relief funds or those voters wouldn't have sent these politicians to Congress in the first place, right? More for everyone else, nothing for the Repubs because they didn't want any of it.

Yep, I thought it was interesting to hear him talk about the "quality" of the voters given the huge demographic shift in voting patterns in the Trump era, with poorly educated people shifting to the GOP and more educated people shifting to the democrats. Based on the current electoral makeup, if we were to impose a college degree requirement for voting, the GOP would lose every time.

AFAIK she has not been asked about reducing it, only about ending it, and from what I've read, she's a bit farther left of Manchin. So I tend to think if Manchin will go along with modifying the filibuster, she will too.

Good editorial about how the GOP strategy going forward has nothing to do with policy arguments, that they are literally sitting on the sidelines while Biden helps us get out of the pandemic and the recession, because their only political strategy is gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Yep, exactly right. I only take issue with the headline "The GOP strategy for crippling Biden and retaking power is hiding in plain sight" Because it isn't hiding. It's just in plain sight. How many times do they have to say the quiet part out loud?

This is why they are screaming louder about HR1 than the stimulus bill or pretty much anything else. If the dems modify the filibuster and pass that bill, they are going to howl louder than they ever have howled about anything. Because it's taking aim at what is right now essentially their sole political strategy. They know that since they have committed to Trump and his creed, they cannot expand their base by persuasion, so the very idea of protecting voting rights and ending gerrymandering is a mortal threat to them.

We had this talk on here a few months back, let the people try out some of these "communist" "fascist" "evil" ideas for some time and see how they like them apples when GQP'ers will try to take it away again. Like with Obama Care, preexisting conditions.. that was a cold hard start for R's to get off the ground.. so cold it never went airborne, they just lied about it in media while trying to repeal it behind the scene.
I think its a brilliant move. Some people in camp Biden is thinking. Thats always a good sign.

We are in a war for American democracy. Democrats should do whatever it takes to save it. Ditch the filibuster, pack the courts. The alternative is a SCOTUS blessed decline into a second Jim Crow, until blue states, which actually support most of the red states, have enough. Then all bets are off, but it will make ditching the filibuster and packing the courts look like a nothingburger in comparison.

Reading between the lines, it's an admission that capturing the middle, uncommitted, unpolarised, disinterested ground, is becoming hard for the Republican party in its current form and phase. But the problem to be solved is not to forbid that middle ground its right to vote, but to be relevant to that middle ground. If you think uninformed people are the problem and why you’re not getting votes, you’re doing a terrible job of informing them.

Republicans have completely given up on the idea that they can actually win elections based on persuasion; they have to win through tribal fear, vote mining, and vote ‘purification’ (see: rigging).
