I was thinking about getting a HR-03 VGA cooler. I know there are two revisions specifically made for the pre-8800 series and the 8800 series. Will the HR-03 Plus (the 6 heat-pipe) cooler work on a regular 7900 card?

I just want a VGA cooler that I can throw onto my next video card, and I wouldn't be able to do this with the 4 heat-pipe HR-03.

I don't think so, unless the 8800 series has the same size for the holes for the heatsink pins to push through as the 7900 cards.

The problem with the video cards is that they keep changing the physical mounting layout. So, very rarely will you take the heatsink with you to the next card of a new generation with the thermalright products unless they make an adapter for it.

Thermalright just announced support for the HR-03 R600 edition.

So, it's likely they'll just keep revising new products to flood the market with compatible heatsinks for select Graphics cards.

Question 1:
Is HR-03 Plus exclusively for 8800 series video cards or can I install it on some other video cards?
Answer1:
Yes, HR-03 Plus is exclusively for Nvidia GeForce 8800 series due to the size difference of the GPU in comparison to other series. The original HR-03 does not have enough surface area to cover every corner of 8800 series GPU, therefore rendering HR-03 to be incompatible.

Basically, the 8800 GPU is bigger, so it has different mounting holes which make it incompatible.
