HP2500L Color Laser Clearance at OfficeDepot ~$648

Entry level color laser printer HP2500L is on clearance at OfficeDepot B&M for $647.01 plus tax. They reduced the display unit another 10%. OfficeDepot has a $20 off $100 or more purchase coupon. So I was able to get a unit for $568.88 plus tax.
 
If this is the same printer I have at work, this is a serious hot deal. Excellent quality. The toner cost $100 each x four separate cartridges. There is another required replacement item, can't remember what it's called, that didn't last as long as the toner for me and it was over $100. But for a color laser printer with excellent print quality and good design, this is one major hot deal. I paid $1000 about 5-6 months ago.
 
whats the difference between the l and non-l models? The only one i see on the website is the non-l version. Do most stores even carry two different models of the same printer?

It's the drum and is used 1 time for each pass per color so if your page needs all 4 colors it will be used 4 times on that page.
 
Do you have to replace all 4 color toners at once? Do they tell your toner is low when 40% is left like they do with their inkjet cartridges? I just don't trust HP. Somehow they will sc$w you into replacing toners before there time...

I believe Minolta has something similar for about $699...I'd take a look. I'd sure as h$ll do a little research on toners and drums first.

Minolta on-site service $175 an hour. Poor software support - did not rewrite older print drivers for XP. You say $699?
Stay clear! Nice printers, but wait till you have a problem. HP support is better and cheaper. Brother network printers can use HP drivers! If you plan to keep your printer for awhile check driver support.
 
I looked at the Minolta 2300DL and it had some nice features but it was $799 plus tax about $210 more ($799.99-$588.88=$211.11). I've had the printer now for only 3 days and so far so good. The HP software claims that less than 100 sheets had been printed and that about 85% of the toners are still available. It's not a Xerox Phaser 6200DP but it wasn't $2300.00 either. I should say that it did not come with an interface cable so I bought a 3 meter (10 feet) USB for $24.99. I don't know if the Minolta 2300DL came with cables or not. The OfficeDepot CSR told me that one of the reasons thay were clearing out the HP 2500L was that customers tended to purchase the Minolta 2300DL over the HP 2500L when they had them priced the same.

The Minolta 2300DL has a larger paper tray, Ethernet 10/100, 2400x600 dpi, 32MB, and a nicer form factor. The HP has 600x600 dpi, PostScript Level 3, and 64MB. I have the printers shared on the network using a PC so Ethernet is nice but not required. The larger paper tray was not needed because the black toner laser printer on the network was the default printer. The higher resolution would be nice but the reduction of memory was not.

As I stated in the first post, this is an entry level color laser printer.
 
I've had my 2500L for about 4 months now and absolutely love it (even though I paid $999 for it, I'd do it all over again if the price was still that high). I print probably 800 - 1200 color pages per month, and have never had a problem (still on first set of cartridges). Great quality, good speed, and relatively inexpensive toner cartridges made this a great buy for me. At this price, you can't beat it!
 
Just as a follow up to my above post, don't buy this printer if you don't like noise. While I do really like the printer, it is a bit on the loud side (quite loud, actually). Not a problem for me, but some may be bothered buy it. Also, it isn't the most attractive design, but hey, for the price, you gotta make some exceptions!
 
Also be aware that the one without the "additional" paper tray doesnt have an actual paper try that holds 250 sheets or whatever. All it has is a little thing that you pull down and you can put like 15-20 sheets in there (similar to a bypass tray for a copy machine). If I were to get one of these I would definately spend the extra money to get the additional paper tray.

While I agree with the paper tray design being lacking mine holds well over 100 sheets of 20 LB paper. HP claims 125 sheets. I have used 110 LB paper with this printer and the tray will hold at least 50 sheets.

I didn't try to get it online because I wanted it now. BB wanted $10 more for the same cable.

Your post is incorrect. The number of sheets that this unit will hold in the fold out paper tray is 125 sheets, not 15-20. I tend to use a higher bond weight paper and still end up with at least 100 sheets in the bypass tray. Look here for specs direct from HP (About half way down next to "input capacity, std."):

Too late now, but next time check out BJ's ($6 for a pack of 2 or 3 USB cables), Sam's, Walmart or some local computer vendor for your USB cable. I absolutely blanch at the prices Staples, OD, BB, etc. charge for these.

but aren't those all 3'

and wondering how low this one will go (.01 designation and all)

Thanks, I haven't seen a BJ's out here in Colorado but lots of Walmarts and Sam's and they've been hit or miss for cables.

The USB 10' cable is actually a little short for my setup. I've seen the 16' cables but the price was a little crazy. With everything operational I can shop around for a 'Hot Deal'.

We have this at work, with 2 paper trays and built in network card. Works OK, but is loud and fairly slow, in my opinion. If it gets two different types of print jobs, such as a basic letter followed by an envelope, it takes a good 5-10 sec to figure itself out between pages. Pretty quick if it is just page after page though. Color quality is pretty good for a laser, but not as good as a top notch photo printer, like the Canon S820/i950. And it is loud. I can here it clear across the office sometimes when it is clacking away. The toner is in a rotating drum, so you can replace individual colors as needed. It does take several minutes to get ready after a toner change. We do more B/W printing than color here, but it has been doing pretty good in the 2 months we have had it.
