Recently got this laptop and got it as a "used, but repairable". Right now I think its the cable that interconnects the lcd display to the video/motherboard. When the computer boots up, the screen will show either lines or gibberish depending on what angle the display is tilted and sometimes the system shuts down when you move the display. When the laptop is hooked to an external vga monitor, everything is fine on it. The previous owner suspected the same thing. Where can I find this cable for under $100? Also where is a good breakdown on how to take the display apart without breaking it? Thanks!

If what you are referring to is multi-colored lines that blink
on-off or move about the screen, then it is not the LCD cable.

More than likely one of the (mylar) LCD Layers is bad or one
of the internal connections is faulty.

You can test it buy gently squeezing the LCD panel between your fingers.
If the lines move, its bad. (note: use a rag to keep oil from fingers of panel)

I've already tested for that and that isn't the case. The display works fine when it is tilted at the right angle and the POST screen even shows up fine at times. However its when the display is moved or tilted is when it gets better/worse at random spots. and does random things. Sometimes the images rolls, is offset, no display or like a wierd splash screen with colors fading in different directions. I had the display off the of main body of the system and touching the cable got you different results.

HP is surprisingly good about letting you buy parts for laptops. I've bought an internal part for my LCD and a cpu cooler, online, direct from them. Try going to their online shopping site then hit the parts store and put your model number in.

Already tried the HP route. There is nothing on parts that I could find. You have to be the original buyer to get any help from their email system.

As for the part number, on what is exposed of the cable there isn't a number and once I find out how to tear the display apart, I might be able to find one.

The tag reads:

Z3.0 DC025023500
SAM. 14.1 XGA REV1.0 MBC

My guess is this is a samsung LCD panel

I don't really want to buy a new LCD panel only to replace the cable.

This is pointless. HP doesn't even recognize the part number and the only websites that cary it are actually 1 company and they require phone contact only. Upon calling them its someone who can't speak English that well and I end up hanging up after 10 minutes. Looks like this lappy is gonna get parted out and sold on eBay.
