Would someone please send me a scan of your HP laptop receipt and a scan of your barcode for the laptop if you don't want the extra floppy drive rebate offer? I ordered the HP from Staples, then went to HP Shopping and bought the USB floppy thinking great, a free floppy then decided to cancel my staples order and get a Compaq since it's a better deal. HP says they cannot cancel my floppy order and I live in dorms so the package will be signed for by the front desk no matter what I do :( My contribution to this thread:

Compaq 900Z
AMD XP1500+
15.1" SXGA (Premium $50 over 15.1" XGA but worth it!)
Radeon IGP integrated (not nearly as good as the 7500, but it beats Intel integrated hands down)
256MB DDR PC2100
20GB HD
8X DVD
56K & 10/100 LAN
1.44MB Floppy
XP Home
-------------
$1219 As configured
-$100 Compaq Rebate
-$30 Code
-------------
$1089 Supposed Free Shipping

You can also buy the luggage and get that free too. If any of you HP buyers don't need a floppy, I'd appreciate those scans, PM me :)

Goodluck getting $300 code to work with the 900Z. For some reason, it wouldn't work for me. But you may have more luck.

I am so pissed off at Staples. I was all set to buy the Compaq 1500 and went to staples, offers printed out, but their build-a-laptop station was broken.

The manager refused to help me out and now if I still want to get it I have to pay $100 more...

Ugh. Will someone talk me into leaping in or waiting until the 2800 is on sale?

You can get $200 back today if you ordered 900z yesterday, see their in-store ad, page 7.

Go to another Staples, the 1500T is the perfect balance of power and portability.

yes, I don't think you can use the $300 coupon with the 900z. If I were you, I would get 1500T considering you get Radeon 7500 and you can use the port replicator if you want to add one in the future.

I just got my Presario 900Z, been playing it for a while. It's a good system but paid for almost $1500 through Compaq direct.

Since my 1500T only cost me $1122 out the door with PIV 2.0 gig, SXGA and all the goody, then I will return back my Presario 900z :)

I couldn't get it to work either. I tried to use the 50off but was turned down. They said that since the order was placed online I should call 1800staples to get the adjustment.

alm4rr,
Do you have any more specific info on compatable RAM for the ze1201? I can't seem to access the info on the Kingston website (keep getting the "page cannot be displayed" message/screen when I choose HP memory search find button). Is it high density? 3.3v, 144-pin? Do you have a SKU on the Kingston RAM? Thanks. :)

kingston's website is down. at least the search is down. so try sometime later.
I think it's compatible with ze1201 cuz it's 144 pin SODIMM

I've been following the phatwallet thread. I'm not registered there, however, someone brought up the issue of poor battery life (70 minutes for a DVD) on the 1500t. I actually ran across the article from which that number was quoted. The config they were using was with the desktop p4 2 ghz. I imagine that the mobile cele will be much better. Also, the Radeon 7500 actually has a power save mode where it can underclock during DVD playback to like 66mhz. I think there will be a significant difference in battery life with the p4 desk versus M-cele and I'm not sure if they had enabled the powersave feature of the Radi. Another solution to further extend movie battery life would be to take the cd-rom out of the equation. With a 20 gig or 30 gig hard drive, one could easily fit a couple of nicely done DIVX rips.

I just called Staples and found out that the $300 coupon only works on the HP BTO (built to order) notebooks, so you won't be able to use it on the Compaqs :( That is, unless you get a dumb B&M manager, or the CSR that I was talking to didn't know jack.

PS: has anybody seen the ZE1201 selling anywhere for less than $1099? If so, we can PM it at a Staples B&M and get some more money back :)

it's a DVD drive, and you r gonna use it, right? on the other hand, downloading those DVD rips will take a long time.

I was thinking more along the lines of ripping the DVD oneself. However, I suppose downloading would be just as effective. I really think that with the mobile cele that 70 minute time will not be an issue.

The $300 rebate worked fine on the Compaq for me.

Hmm....so since I used the $300.00 coupon on the ZE1201, it's not built to order, and it won't supposedly arrive until October 18th, should I expect my order to be cancelled (since they obviously have plenty of time to review my order)? :(

If they do, I noticed this on the HP Website:

"Because of unexpectedly high demand, supplies are limited for this product. HP and hpshopping.com remain committed to supply floppy drives to interested customers."

If Staples starts cancelling orders, HP is going to get a lot of returned Floppy Drives! heh heh

I haven't ordered my floppy yet. I don't know if staple will cancel my order. that's why i'm waiting. there's no deadline for the floppy deal, right?
and i'll wait for sometime before i order the 2 kingston RAM and the laptop case.
i called my CC today and they said the deal is through. but on staples' site it still shows processing.

Banditking - Yeah I read that about the claimed poor battery life. However I'm not too concerned with it since I deliberately chose the Celeron 1.4 which should give me some extra time, plus I paid the extra $29 to get the higher capacity 66 WHr battery. The only times I'll really watch DVDs on my laptop is if I have to, i.e. long drive, plane trip, train trip, jury duty (waiting to be selected for a case not during trial obviously).

Besides I could really care less I got a laptop which retails for $1,328 for only $839, a savings of $489 so what if I have to live with not so great battery life.

After I receive my laptop, I'm going to fully charge the battery, then start playing a DVD, go out and do some shopping and return in 60 minutes. If the battery lasts longer than 70 hours and 1 second you'd better believe that I'll be back here making some people eat their own words :D

lol, I too got the 1500T with the bigger battery and, there's no need to argue on this one Rossman, the Mobile Celeron will be able to cut down on power consumption while playing dvd's as opposed to the desktop P4 which has no power saving features. Add this mobile feature to the extra battery capacity and I wouldn't be surprised if we hit more than two hours easily. I'm also willing to argue that the P4 eats up more power on average than the Celeron while doing the same activities.

Here's a processor comparison that I did before I bought the 1500T:

Pentium 4 Specs

Mobile Celeron Specs

I just want my damn laptop. Maybe you can answer two simple questions for me:
1) Does the 1500T come with 802.11b built-in? I was playing around with a 2800 at Costco yesterday and I think the 802.11b was built into the laptop?
2) The Free WiFi thing we're getting, what is it? A card or WAP?

Thanks.
