I am so pissed off at Staples. I was all set to buy the Compaq 1500 and went to staples, offers printed out, but their build-a-laptop station was broken.
The manager refused to help me out and now if I still want to get it I have to pay $100 more...
Ugh. Will someone talk me into leaping in or waiting until the 2800 is on sale?

yes, I don't think you can use the $300 coupon with the 900z. If I were you, I would get 1500T considering you get Radeon 7500 and you can use the port replicator if you want to add one in the future.
I just got my Presario 900Z, been playing it for a while. It's a good system but paid for almost $1500 through Compaq direct.
Since my 1500T only cost me $1122 out the door with PIV 2.0 gig, SXGA and all the goody, then I will return back my Presario 900z

I've been following the phatwallet thread. I'm not registered there, however, someone brought up the issue of poor battery life (70 minutes for a DVD) on the 1500t. I actually ran across the article from which that number was quoted. The config they were using was with the desktop p4 2 ghz. I imagine that the mobile cele will be much better. Also, the Radeon 7500 actually has a power save mode where it can underclock during DVD playback to like 66mhz. I think there will be a significant difference in battery life with the p4 desk versus M-cele and I'm not sure if they had enabled the powersave feature of the Radi. Another solution to further extend movie battery life would be to take the cd-rom out of the equation. With a 20 gig or 30 gig hard drive, one could easily fit a couple of nicely done DIVX rips.

I just called Staples and found out that the $300 coupon only works on the HP BTO (built to order) notebooks, so you won't be able to use it on the CompaqsThat is, unless you get a dumb B&M manager, or the CSR that I was talking to didn't know jack.
PS: has anybody seen the ZE1201 selling anywhere for less than $1099? If so, we can PM it at a Staples B&M and get some more money back![]()

Hmm....so since I used the $300.00 coupon on the ZE1201, it's not built to order, and it won't supposedly arrive until October 18th, should I expect my order to be cancelled (since they obviously have plenty of time to review my order)?
If they do, I noticed this on the HP Website:
"Because of unexpectedly high demand, supplies are limited for this product. HP and hpshopping.com remain committed to supply floppy drives to interested customers."
If Staples starts cancelling orders, HP is going to get a lot of returned Floppy Drives! heh heh

Banditking - Yeah I read that about the claimed poor battery life. However I'm not too concerned with it since I deliberately chose the Celeron 1.4 which should give me some extra time, plus I paid the extra $29 to get the higher capacity 66 WHr battery. The only times I'll really watch DVDs on my laptop is if I have to, i.e. long drive, plane trip, train trip, jury duty (waiting to be selected for a case not during trial obviously).
Besides I could really care less I got a laptop which retails for $1,328 for only $839, a savings of $489 so what if I have to live with not so great battery life.
After I receive my laptop, I'm going to fully charge the battery, then start playing a DVD, go out and do some shopping and return in 60 minutes. If the battery lasts longer than 70 hours and 1 second you'd better believe that I'll be back here making some people eat their own words![]()

lol, I too got the 1500T with the bigger battery and, there's no need to argue on this one Rossman, the Mobile Celeron will be able to cut down on power consumption while playing dvd's as opposed to the desktop P4 which has no power saving features. Add this mobile feature to the extra battery capacity and I wouldn't be surprised if we hit more than two hours easily. I'm also willing to argue that the P4 eats up more power on average than the Celeron while doing the same activities.
Here's a processor comparison that I did before I bought the 1500T:
Pentium 4 Specs
Mobile Celeron Specs
