Does Dell include the OS (Vista Home) on DVD for laptop and desktop purchases? Or is it an additional option somewhere? I was considering HP but I heard that their $19 Recovery DVD contains ALL of the bloatware, and that there is a hidden partition used for the HP recovery process.

I usually just wipe the entire HD clean whenever I buy a new Dell laptop, then start from a clean install of the OS. If this is not possible with current HP or Dell hard drives, I will have to pursue the OEM route.

Yeah my dell inspiron 1420 came with a windows vista home restore dvd and a drivers disk. It does install some dell bloatware as part of the installation process (dell help center or something).

My HP 27xx also came with a vista restore dvd that had bloatware automatically install, making me wait an extra 30 minutes.

Dells almost always come with the OS install disk, and they do not include anything but the OS.
