HP V40 All-in-one $160 shipped or $110 shipped if you recently bought a computer

Updated on 3/8 because the Gateway deal has expired.
Still a very good deal at $9 more at Staples than what Gateway deal was. Use 40 off 200 coupon.

First, credit to golfreak who posted the Gateway Accessory Store deals. I posted this separately in case there were questions about the HP V40xi.

HP V40xi $201 less $50 coupon=$151
If you qualify for a rebate, you can save another $50, bringing this deal down to $101.

I've been thinking about buying the V40xi and this is the best deal I've found yet. It works well because the price just clears the amount needed for the Gateway instant savings, it qualifies for free shipping (over $199), and no tax in most states.

The V40xi was recently reduced from $250 to $200 by HP, so getting this for $101 is worth it for the fax machine use alone. The included ink would cost at least $50.

Staples appears to carry the V40, not the V40xi. See Rossman's post below regarding the differences. I put a stack (seven pages) of originals in the ADF and the copies printed quickly and easily.

woooot! was lookin to buy this at either staples or omax, but with this price, its hot. everywhere i looked its been about 199.00 .. so bump for a good deal. nice find!

I ordered it mainly because it has an auto document feeder for scanning. I want to archieve my home document (all sorts of statements, etc). This feature alone may worth $150?

After reading several glowing reviews and this thread I decided to buy this multi-functional printer/fax/scanner/copier. Unfortunately I've been so busy working, posting here that I haven't had time to get it out and play with it. I'll probably do that sometime this week and report my findings in this thread.

For scanning and copying purposes I'd prefer this has a sheet feeder and flatbed but that would dramatically increase the printers footprint. I already love how small it is compared to comparable Canon/Brother MFC's.

Fully Windows XP support should be here in March, I think. This is an excellent thread I recommend that you read!.

Just so you know the HP OfficeJet V40xi and V40 are slightly different models. Here's a comparison of their memory?
Feature----Max number of copies----Pages of fax memory------Speed dials
V40................99.....................................50................................60
V40xi..............50.....................................60................................40

The V40xi is usually sold at Sam's Club and CostCo. I found this for $189 from CostCo B&M but avoided that because I wanted a V40 not a V40xi.

I did not realize there were capacity differences between the V40 and V40xi. Thanks, Rossman for pointing this out. I edited my original post to refer only to the V40xi. I thought the difference was only the sales channel HP sold to. I will not need more than 50 copies or 40 speed dials, so the differences won't matter much. While the input tray is 150 pages, the output tray can hold only 50 pages, so setting the copies beyond 50 isn't too practical anyway.

The unit can function as a stand alone fax and copier without being connected to a PC. I just set mine up without the PC. I ignored the steps about installing software and connecting to the PC. The fax setup can be done using the front panel controls.

I only got as far as making one color copy, but it came out great and was very easy to do. Just place the originals in the automatic document feeder (the front panel will display "Original Loaded"), press the Copy button, select number of copies (if more than 1), then press either the Black or Color start button.

If my wife can handle making a copy on her own (and I think she can... I think she can..) then I'm a happy customer. I never could get her to use the flatbed scanner to make copies. To her defense, the "One Touch" wasn't always one touch and she'd call me to find out what went wrong. Grrr...

I am glad that I ordered this all-in-one. As I said before I made my decision primarily based on its auto document feeder (ADF)feature. I want to archive my home document and put them on a CD-ROM(s). Here are some of my findings:
- Tried 50 pages on ADF for scanning, worked as expected. 200dpi 1 bit (black/white) setting, appr. >3pages/min. Print to Acrobat to create pdf file with file size about 1mb for 50 pages.
- Photo scan only one photo at a time. Quality is excellent. Much better than Visioneer One Touch 8100.
- Can not scan in back ground. A nonsense. I can work on other programs but the HP scan software became active on screen when it starts a new page.
- Haven't tried other functions. No comment for now.
- Ink cartridges, both black and color, are both 2-3 times bigger than Epson's (mine Epson 860).
- set up is very easy. Time is synchronized with the pc.

In my view this is an excellent deal. $200-50(gateway promotion)-50(if you purchased quality pc or notebook)=$100 free shipping.

michaelh888 - Thanks for the mini-review I still haven't gotten mine out of the box (too busy and lazy).

Which OS are you running?
