Hello forum dwellers. New poster here, please be patient.
I was recommended this forum by a friend who told me this is the best place to get help for computer issues. my problem is as follows:
I use an AMD Duron 800mhz, 256mb RAM with MS Windows ME Hebrew version. A couple of months ago i aquired an HP USB ScanJet 2100C. After installing according to instructions, the scanner worked 100% using the PersicionScan LTX and Adobe ActiveShare software which came with it. A few weeks later the scanner stopped working and I got a message of "Scanner not found". It turned out that the USB cable was out of its socket. The scanner resumed working with no visible problems after i re-connected the cable.
A couple of days ago, after not using the scanner for a couple of weeks, i tried using it again and got the same error msg: "Scanner not found. Scanner could not be initialized". Thinking it was the same problem, i checked the USB cable and found it to be in place. same goes for the power cable.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, unplugged the scanner and rebooted the computer. Things seem as usual, scanner does not work.
My questions are:
1. How can i verify whether this is a software problem or a hardware one?
2. If this is a software problem, how can i fix it? HPs' troubleshooting did not help at all solving this.

P.S: If more hardware specifications are required, let me know and i'll post them.
