There is a TX2000 tablet I am interested in buying and I was wondering about the inner workings of the screen.

The seller is saying that due to damage he removed touch screen panel so it's basically like a good condition regular laptop. I keep seeing terms like touch, wacom, digitizer so I'm a little confused and not exactly sure what he did.

Would it be possible to get the touch screen panel seperately and install it so that it is back to normal? How much would that cost and how hard would that be to do?

Also, given the information about the damages, how much would the laptop I am interested in be worth?

i'd be vary wary of something thats been damaged and/or attempted to be fixed. who knows what else might break down the road. did he say what kind of damage it sustained? also, why would you buy a tablet if most of the tablet functionality has been removed by him?

He said the touch screen got damaged and that's why he removed it. He's also offering a 6 month warranty on it.

I'm thinking of buying it because I may be able to get a good deal on it and then I can possibly fix the touch screen problem myself.

i'm wondering how or in what way it got damaged though. for example imact damage from dropping it. anyways, it would require some research to determine if you can even replace it. there are some diy kits but thats not exactly the same as replacing something that was broken

Sounds like the original screen got busted and he replaced it with a none touch screen. To make it a tablet again you would have to buy and install the correct screen which would probabnly double your investment in the unit. If you want a tablet then buy one new or use a a touch pad separately.

Gives you the same fuctionality its just not built into the screen.

Thanks for the advice. So it's not possible to keep the same panel but remove certain components that provide touchscreen functionality?

it's a lot more complicated with the tx series. most laptop lcd panel units are a unplug and swap affair once you get the bezel off. but tablets have a lcd panel, a touchscreen component to the lcd panel, and that particular model has a wacom active digitizer as well. so there are 3 components instead of just the lcd panel.

i suspect the digitizer may be a separable component from the panel but the touchscreen is probably part of the lcd panel. just the lcd is probably easy enough to find and replace cheaply(plenty of 12.1 notebooks out there), but a replacement touchscreen+lcd is probably expensive. which is why the seller did the repair as such.

i'm interested in this as well, i have a tx2500 and wouldn't mind putting in a led backlit panel used in the newer tx2 model. but since the tx2 uses a different digitzer and capacitive touch panel technology it probably wont work
