it's too bad HP has seemingly been slow to make any noise about webOS. only a lot of fluff and no sign of significantly strengthening their apps. lots of dev relations hiring and push, but this is a reboot. hope they pull through, I would like to go back to webOS eventually.

damn... i was really hoping for WebOS also :(... looks really slow... pitty, they could've had GPU acceleration a la iOS or WP7

WebOS has had GPU acceleration for quite some time now. And having played around with a Touchpad, it's anything but slow. It's going to be a pretty killer product actually.

Actually, it's sort of refreshing to see a company not fire up the hype machine...

I love webOS and all, but it's slow. It's not iOS or WP7 smooth. Heck, it's not even Android Smooth. It's one of the slower OS's... May even be slower than QNX.

Well, I didn't mean hype necessarily. No point in that if they don't have a product yet. But the Veer is out, and NOW they start pushing it? Or not even yet...

Though, they could be waiting for the touchpad so they can sell it together.

The other half is developers. It really seems HP doesn't have a clear cut way of dealing with bugs and issues. There's a media player related bug they seemingly refuse to acknowledge officially.

And they, for better or worse, have stated they'll "make things better" for the original webOS supporters, and have been mum on what that actually means. I'm pretty sure we all got sick of waiting since I haven't received an update in nearly a year for my phone.

I had WP7 and WebOS. The lack of multitasking and notifications on WP7 made me switch back to WebOS, i'm currently on a Veer (i hate big phones). Dont get my wrong, I like WP7, its smooth and runs great. The biggest news to come from yesterday is they are picking 2 "special" companies to license WebOS on their hardware (HTC and Samsung, I hope). Im kind of siked to check out the Touchpad when it comes out, although i dont think ill be purchasing it nor any other tablet.

The touchpad looks awesome, but HP's consumer division is laughably incompetent. HP isn't going to sell a lot of them because of shitty marketing, even though it looks like a great product. It's a shame that they were the ones who bought palm. Web OS is going to go away in a couple years, I'm betting.

notifications on WP7 are pretty good actually. But yes, it doesn't have multitasking like WebOS. WebOS is still my favorite smartphone OS, mainly because of the "just type" feature. But I was never a fan of how slow it was... even on faster hardware, it's still slow...

Wow, you've really let your Hulu disillusionment with the PlayBook warp your overall opinion of the platform...QNX is actually very smooth. WebOS is also fairly smooth as well. In the videos, there were occasional stutters before an animation got started, but it was generally smooth after it was going. Not the smoothest thing I've ever seen, but certainly not first gen Droid choppy.

I'd say, iOS/WP7 > QNX > Android > WebOS in terms of smoothness...

in terms of OS functionality, WebOS > QNX > iOS/WP7/Android. Sorry, WP7 and iOS and Android I'd say are pretty much even... though there will be people who loves Android above all... same with iOS, and people who swear by WP7.

Apps wise, iOS > Android > WP7 > WebOS > QNX

uhh. What are you running it on? If you're talking an original Sprint Pre with no overclocking, yes, I'd agree. On anything else (Pre +, Pre 2, even an overclocked Sprint Pre) its as smooth as can be. FAR smoother than Android. Maybe not quite up to iOS standards, but it's certainly no slouch (and hey, can iOS have 30 apps open and multitasking at once? Don't think so)

They'd probably rather take their time and do it right than mess it up and basically remove any chance of gaining appreciable market share.

or maybe theyll release a finished product instead of windows phone 7 or the playbook, where the products are getting flak BEFORE release because they lack a number of features common already in other devices (like cut and paste....or an email app)

either way, they have to come out swinging to get people interested. ill stick with my android, but webOS looks interesting from what ive seen in the past
