HP Touchpad CM9 --> Nexus 7

I find my iPad and Nook Color serving very different purposes. The iPad's great for email and web surfing while on the couch, while the Nook is my primary e-reader and what I bring with me when traveling. The iPad is a TON better for magazines which are nearly useless on the Nook and other 7" screens, while the Nook is better for reading books in bed.

Both are fine for video, but I had to buy a $2 app that allowed the iPad to play my video files without converting (converting videos to be device-specific is idiotic). I'm not sold on touchscreen gaming beyond the occasional Angry Birds so I can't really speak to how well games play on a 7" vs. 10" screen. I wouldn't expect there to be too much difference on this front, though.

I'm actually in the same boat as you, but I did list my Touchpad on craigslist the other day so we'll see what happens.

I like the Touchpad, but I don't use it that much. I think I would use a tablet more in a smaller form factor the Touchpad is just too heavy to hold comfortably with one hand.

I'm thinking about off-loading my Touchpad as well. I had an iPad before I bought it, and I recently picked up a Transformer, which means the Touchpad doesn't really serve much of a purpose. WebOS is slower than Android or iOS (to me at least), and I find that Android on the TouchPad is just either too buggy or too annoying to use. It's completely understandable why it's like that, but that doesn't mean that I feel like putting up with it.

I don't know if I'd be willing to go to 7" though. I like the ~10" size, and I think it works rather well. Albeit, I haven't personally used a 7" tablet, but seeing them in the store has given me the idea that I wouldn't find them as usable.

Unless you NEED Flash, there's really no reason to hang on to a TouchPad anymore.

Once again, Bateluer is proven right. The TouchPad, being entirely dependent on the community for support, will now be left in the cold as the bulk of the devs move to the Nexus 7. Sell your TPs now, before they have the same price tag as pad of Post-Its.

I'm in the same situation. I have a Touchpad, but the Nexus is appealing because of the size, speed, etc. I do have to say, the latest CM9 nightlies have been awesome for me.

Honestly, my largest problem is that it refuses to do what I want. For example, I put my TouchPad on the charging dock, and in both WebOS and CM9, it will display a clock. Well, in WebOS, if I hit the power button, it turns the screen off. In CM9, it turns the screen back on after a few minutes. That alone made me leave the TouchPad in WebOS.

Although, WebOS is so damned clunky for browsing (separate application instances for tabs ) that I prefer toting my iPad around and using it instead. My Transformer works alright, but the lack of a good ad blocking solution makes me prefer the iPad over it... especially if you install Flash! The Firefox beta for Android can use add-ons, and it has AdBlock Plus available; however, I really do not like the GUI for the tablet version of Firefox for Android. I don't recall if it has Flash support anyway.

Chances are that I may wait until CM9 is in a pretty solid state and see how well it works.

I'm keeping my three Touchpads. It's worth more to me than what I can get for it. If I was interested in money, I would have sold the Touchpads long ago when it was in demand. It's worth it as a clock and picture frame.

I am thinking about maybe selling my 3G OG 7" Galaxy Tab since I preordered the 8gb Nexus 7. But the Tab has cell radio so it's pretty unique and useful as backup phone. But seven tablets in the house seem like overkill.

Mine doesn't do that. It comes on when I put it on the dock, if I hit the power button it goes off if I leave it it goes to clock mode.

I'm not sure if we're even running the same version of CM9. It's been awhile, but I think I'm on Alpha 2.5? Something like that....

Install Dock Nothingness from Play. You can then set it to simply do nothing when you put it on the dock.

I love my Touchpad, it's a fully functioning Android tablet (minus the camera), AND a WebOS tablet when I want to go that route. I couldn't go from 10 inches to 7 at this point, and I never feel it is lagging or wishing the processing could go faster. Besides, there's good reason to believe that Jellybean will come to it eventually anyway.

The only thing that is interesting me in another tablet is the fact that there is a 7 inch Galaxy2 with an IR blaster...making the most effective and cool universal remote on the market, WITH a web browser to boot.

You seriously need to upgrade. When I first installed CM9, I was frustrated at the battery life and other bugs. They have it really smooth now...good battery life, no more reboots, stable wifi. All that's missing is the camera.

Yea I've been flashing the nightly builds every few weeks and it seems to get better and better each time.

Agreed, it's at a totally different place than the official alphas.

The update is really a simple process - I took your advice and finally updated my touchpad tonight. My biggest complaint before was the wifi issue.

Wifi and mic have been resolved, but honestly, if you're using a full fledged tablet, this is not very good. A lot of things are "choppy" like scrolling in Twitter, etc.

Honestly a Nexus 7 is a HUGE upgrade in terms of usability. Unfortunately if the 7" factor is an issue, then maybe not. I for one think that 10" is the right size. Would like them to release a Nexus 10.

I know you bring this up a lot and, yes, other tablets have longer standby times. But really, how often are you away from a charger for 4 days?

Of all the things that could be improved on the android port on the touchpad thats very near the bottom of the list for me.

Look at it this way, if your smartphone had a battery life of 4 days would you be complaining?

I wouldn't market the Touchpad with a ported Android OS against the Nexus. But if you already have one, I don't think you're going to find it to be much of an upgrade.

Most of this is subjective, and the objective "issues" vary from person to person. Some people had no issues with the battery all along, while I struggled until recently. Same with wifi. I have never seen the "choppiness" that you mention, but it may be because I run it at 1.52 instead of the base 1.2.

I'm having a hard time seeing the Nexus as a HUGE upgrade in usability, but I'm sure that depends on the person and the use. The fact that the Kindle Fire, for example, has no camera or mic is not that big a deal to me. But if it is to you, then you would see that tablet as "crippled".

I got the N7 and didn't sell my TP yet. I gotta say I've been using the N7 a lot more around the house since it feels like a much more casual device. Although, I'm thinking of keeping the TP around just cause it might be the perfect travel tablet.
