I have an HP Scanjet 5100c (parallel). It's pretty old - the drivers were originally intended for use under Win95. I had Win98 and was sick of it because of its instability so I upgraded to Win2k (fresh install..none of that upgrading from 98 crap) and my scanner won't work.
On the HP website regarding my scanner:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/c5197a.html
it has a patch for Win2k. its instructions are to install Win2k over Win98 and then apply the patch. I reformatted my comp and installed the full version of Win2k since upgrading over Win98 might lead to some legacy files being left over or some other incompatibilities. So after installing Win2k, I then installed the driver that was meant for Win9x and then applied the Win2k patch (they don't have a fully compatible driver for Win2k..but only a stupid little patch). So I tried scanning but it won't scan.
I also tried emailing HP tech support but they suck ass - they said there's no email support for 5100c and won't even help me despite me being (not anymore!) a loyal customer of HP: Scanjet 5100c, Deskjet 712, and LaserJet 4p.
Anyone know of a solution?
If not, are there any other way for me to scan under Win2k without using the HP proprietary driver (I believe I can still scan as long as the device is TWAIN compatible but I have no idea how that works..perhaps you guys can shine a light on this).
