The scanner works fine with Paperport. Just 'select source' to the hp scanner.

It's CCD.
4600 specs

The first 4600 I had showed sevier banding problems. I returned it to staples and tried another unit. The banding is still there but to much lesser degree and noticeable only on areas around the scanned material. This leads me to believe these units has some QC issues. Good part is staples and hp will make things right (within reason) if scanner does not work to your satisfaction (refund, replacement).

Thanks, Kato. I'm kind of entrenched in that software by now.

I just got back from my local Staples... I got the last one they had out. Used the handy $10 off $20 coupon... $21.39 otd.

I'm eager to get it set up and see if the banding problem is there, but I don't expect to be able to do so until tomorrow night. If the image quality is anywhere above mediocre, it's probably worth the $20. My scanner gets minimal use, and it's primarily archiving articles and documents and for copying rebate submissions for all the deals I find at Anandtech. :)

Thanks to all in this thread. Great Deal. Scanner works as advertised, no software or installation problems in XP. The Two-pronged cable is in fact a bit short on the usb prong.

Darn, you must be a sly one one7 to stack the $10 off $20 coupon on top of this deal as well.

This scanner is like a regular scanner turned upside down so the normal plastic lid (base) is on the bottom. The main portion of the scanner clips onto the lid (base) with couple of plastic tabs which does not latch very firmly. Sometimes if you open the scanner to insert a document, the scanner unlatches from the lid (base). It's not a major problem but just annoying some times.

Mine died on the 14th day from the date of purchase, so I was able to return it for a refund. Anybody else have their scanner suddenly die. Power just wouldn't come on after that.
