Alright, my mother has a cheap HP all-in-one printer, model PSC 1200. It generally works pretty well but just recently she replaced the black ink cartridge and started encountering a strange problem...It'll print fine for a while and then throw an error claiming that the cartridge is incompatible. It's not...it's the correct model, #56.

Anyone experience this before? Any solutions?

Have you contacted HP tech support? They are pretty quick on responding. I'd say it could be the contacts on the cartridge or in the cartridge carrier could be dirty. Radio Shack used to carry some very good contact cleaner pens (Deoxit) that should work fine for resolving that, if that is the problem.

Looks like they don't carry the pens any more (some Pro Gold pens are being blown out on an as-is/where-is basis for $4.00). It might be worth entering your zip code to see if a store near you still has. Now they just have a kit of cleaner (Deoxit) and enhancer (ProGold) in small spray cans at an egregious price. I'd get the technician's rescue kit (IDK what they call it on the mcmaster site - for some reason they try to hide that some of the stuff they carry is by Caig Labs - www.caig.com) from mcmaster.com before paying $15. for that. Or sometimes you can find Caig stuff on eBay at decent prices. The Deoxit is the cleaner and the Deoxit Gold or Pro Gold is the enhancer. The Caig stuff really works!
