I have recently started using Charter for my internet connection, and am very happy with them. My 2nd lap top detects a wireless connection, but it says it can't find a "certificate" to log onto the internet. I have spent countless hours with charter trying to fix the problem, but to no avail. I have used the unit all over the country in various wireless connections with no problems. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you in advance.

it is XP. I am not sure of the other things. I know my other laptop connected immediately upon turning on, and my compaq desk top upstairs had not problems either. The unit detects a wireless system, and it is the correct one, but it says it can't find a "certificate" to log on. No one seems to know what this is.

Thanks.

Can you get to the wireless network connection properties for your wireless network? See if IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network is checked. If so, uncheck it.

Your modem and router (if you have a router) are what the wireless NICs in your laptop and desktop connect to for internet use.

I tried your last suggestion, and it did not work, it would even connect to internet. I reversed it and still not connect. Before it would connect, just could not validate identity.

Thanks for you suggestions.

Double-check that the password is correct. I had a situation before where the 20 character WEP password was almost correct (8 instead of B), and it would connect but wouldn't work. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it until finally I got the correct password.
