I have a HP Pavilion DV2910US refurbished that I bought a while ago and it will load windows, work fine for a while then slows down and then freezes.I have been to the HP website and there has been a recall on some models but this one is not covered.Any thoughts on what the problem could be?
Also the fan seems to speed up and slow down at frequent intervals when it freezes.
Any tests or anything I can try and isolate the problem?

Back up your data and reformat.

Btw, I have a retired HP dv2000. Your title shouldn't be "HP Pavilion dv2000 problem." It should be "HP Pavilion dv2000 IS a problem." I'm glad I moved on 😛 sorry to thread crap.

My wife has the exact same machine that also has issues. I'm with alimoalem - these machines ARE problems. The fan has always done that 'revving' thing and it runs insanely hot. I never could figure out what the fan problem was. I'd be curious if you ever figure it out. I had the latest BIOS update and it generally ran it on a flat surface. I gave up figuring it was some issue with the heatpipe or something.

Last week when it started locking up in Vista I ran an memtest and found that one of the sticks of memory was bad. Thought that would have fixed it, but problems continued, so I ran seagate's disk utility and it failed test after test. Took the drive out and now I have to recover the pictures from it and buy a new laptop.
