Hp p410 raid smart array controller card

Good evening all.

I have a question about HP P410 RAID SMART ARRAY CONTROLLER CARD.

Is there supposed to be a license number that needs to be added to make the card work? I bought a server on ebay with this card in it. The server boots and i can start up linux mint from usb, but when i tried to install it to a hard drive, machine reported no drives found. I managed to find Raid controllers menu in bios. It reports no physical drives connected and it also shows no licenses installed. Do I have to have a license installed on this controller for it to see the drives or is my problem somewhere else?

No license number but if it's in RAID mode, you have configure the RAID first. You should see a prompt after the initial post screen where the controller boots. It will tell you the model of control, how much memory it has, and how many physical and logical drives, followed by the key to press to enter the controller setup.

XavierMace is correct, you have to create the raid first.

During boot up there should be a prompt to create an array.

You many need to hit esc while it boots to see all the controller loads and when it load the P410 it will say what button to press to enter the configuration utility

Go to Download Smart Start CD, and it does not matter too much what os you take, download the iso and burn it using your preferred burning program and boot from it and it will have the Smart Array utility to configure the drives/raid.

License is only needed to enable raid 6.. pretty nifty idea... yes you need to create the raid partition first.

If you want raid 6, you need the battery pack and cache.. usually people buy it without battery
